The article discusses one of the ways to monitor human health through a continuous comparative analysis of skin temperatures on various parts of the body. Comparing the temperatures of such parts as the armpit, limbs of the arms and legs, it is proposed to draw a conclusion about the state of blood circulation and blood density. A detailed algorithm for processing the measured temperatures is presented. An automated data processing and notification system is proposed. The description of the initial version of the device developed by the authors is given, where the assumptions about possible health problems are notified using light lamps and an audio signal. An inexpensive Arduino NANO microcontroller is proposed as a technical tool for an information processing device.. The research results can be applied in automated systems as hardware and software. The device can be useful in constant monitoring the health status of newborns, people with serious disabilities and people with limited ability to move independently.

Among thermal stimulation treatments that have a beneficial effect on the human body general application of cold and various forms of massage are mentioned which can be assessed by means of thermovision analysis. The aim of the study was to evaluate changes in the distribution of surface body temperature under the influence of whole-body cryostimulation, classical massage and hot stone massage. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on a group of 40 men aged 20–24 years. They were subjected to a cryostimulation treatment at –120 °C and –140 °C, and to heat-stimulating treatments in the form of massages. Before the treatment, blood pressure and heart rate were measured. Temperature distribution in the 12 areas of the body surface was recorded using a Thermo Vision A20M Thermo Vision Camera with Therma CAM Researcher 2.8 software. Results: Statistically significant differences between cryostimulation treatments in the left upper limb and the back of the trunk were found. After heat-stimulating treatments, a statistically significant increase in temperature after classic massage was observed in the lower limbs, and a similar increase in temperature was noted in the rear of the pectoral girdle and of the trunk after hot stone massage. Conclusions: The thermovision analysis showed a great variation of body surface temperature depending on the body area. The higher changes in temperature, of up to 20%, were found within the upper and lower extremities in the group treated with cryostimulation. After heat-stimulating treatments, lower temperature differences, of 2–6%, were observed, the largest within the trunk and the lower limbs.

The purpose of this work was to assess the impact of a specific equestrian training, conducted in winter weather conditions, on the thermovision temperature distribution of a rider’s body surface. The study included a riding pair with 12 years of experience (female rider, aged 25, sports active and 16-year-old horse, Trakehner breed). Methods: The study included the temperature distribution of selected parts of the rider’s body (the area of the right and left shoulder blade, chest and lumbar section, and the region of the left and right cross) was carried out before and after recreational, jumping and dressage training. Each winter training has been repeated, at different times, 10 times, giving a total of 30 workouts. The thermovision measurements were made in a separate room, always under the same conditions. Results: Research has shown that, along with the increase in the level and intensity of the training, the body surface temperature of the rider increased. After recreational driving, this temperature increased, compared to the pre-workout measurement, by 3.15 °C, after jumping through obstacles to 4.39 °C, and in dressage to 5.82 °C. Conclusions: The highest increase in body surface temperature (on the example of dressage training) was recorded in the thoracic and lumbar part of the spine region, then in the area of the left and right scapula, while the smallest in the left and right sacral region of the rider.

Najlepiej poznane rytmy dobowe człowieka to: rytm sen–czuwanie, okołodobowa zmienność temperatury głębokiej ciała, dobowe zmiany ciśnienia tętniczego krwi oraz częstości skurczów serca, dobowe zmiany wydzielania hormonów: m.in. melatoniny, kortyzolu, hormonu wzrostu, prolaktyny. Temperatura głęboka ciała u ludzi ma swój charakterystyczny, sinusoidalny przebieg, z wartościami maksymalną około godz. 15:00-17:00 i minimalną, około godz. 03:00-05:00 rano.

The best known daily rhythms in humans include: the sleep-wake rhythm, the circadian core body temperature variability, daily fluctuations in arterial blood pressure and heartbeat frequency, and daily changes in hormone secretion: e.g. melatonin, cortisol, growth hormone, prolactin. The core body temperature in humans has a characteristic sinusoidal course, with the maximum value occurring between 3:00-5:00 pm and the minimum between 3:00-5:00 am. Analysis of literature indicates that the obtained results concerning core body temperature are to a large extent influenced by the type of method applied in the measurement. Depending on test protocols, we may apply various methodologies to measuring core body temperature. One of the newest methods of measuring internal and external body temperature consists in the utilisation of remote temperature sensors transmitting the obtained value via a radio signal. The advantages of this method includes the ability to perform: continuous core temperature measurement, observe dynamic changes in core body temperature occurring in circadian rhythm and the repeatability and credibility of the obtained results, which is presented in numerous scientific reports.

The aim of this study was to analyse dynamic fluctuations in the circadian rhythm of the core body temperature in healthy adults exposed to conditions in a hyperbaric chamber, using fully objective-telemetric measurement methods. The study group consisted of 13 healthy males (age 32±6.4 years, height 1.85±0.1 m, body weight 84.00±6.3 kg; BMI 24.7±1.2 kg/m2). The core body temperature (CBT) was measured with the Vital Sense telemetry system. The volunteers were placed in a hyperbaric chamber, exposed to compression of 400 kPa, with the exposure plateau of approx. 30 minutes, followed by gradual decompression. The mean core temperature was 36.71oC when registered within 10 minutes before the exposure, 37.20oC during the exposure, 37.27oC one hour after the exposure, 37.36oC 2 hours after the exposure, and 37.42oC three hours after the exposure. The conducted observations show that onehour stay in a hyperbaric chamber at a depth of 30 m results in an increase in the body temperature, particularly significant after the exposure ends, and maintained for at least 3 hours after the exposure.

Celem badań była analiza dynamicznych zmian okołodobowej rytmiki temperatury głębokiej ciała u osób zdrowych poddanych ekspozycji w komorze hiperbarycznej, wykorzystując w pełni obiektywne - telemetryczne metody pomiarowe. Grupę badaną stanowiło 13 zdrowych mężczyzn (wiek 32±6,4 lat; wysokość ciała 1,85±0,1 m, masa ciała 84,00±6,3 kg; BMI 24,7±1,2 kg/m2). Pomiaru temperatury głębokiej ciała (CBT – Core Body Temperature) badanych osób dokonywano przy użyciu telemetrycznego systemu pomiarowego Vital Sense. Ochotnicy zostali umieszczeni w komorze hiperbarycznej i sprężeni do ciśnienia 400kPa, plateau ekspozycji wynosiło ok. 30 minut po czym nastąpiła stopniowana dekompresja. Średnia temperatura wewnętrzna zarejestrowana w przedziale czasowym 10 min przed ekspozycją wyniosła Twew.=36,71oC, podczas ekspozycji Twew. = 37,20oC, godzinę po ekspozycji Twew. = 37,27oC, 2 godziny po ekspozycji Twew. = 37,36oC, 3 godziny po ekspozycji Twew. = 37,42oC.

Ectothermal vertebrates regulate their body temperature within definite limits to maintain physiological processes at their optimal levels. Among others, food processing and absorption are strongly temperature-dependent. Deficiency of adequate temperatures limits ectotherms in growth and maintenance. On the other hand, thermoregulatory behavior is costly and should be constrained by many factors. Using artificial thermal gradients (26–44°C), we measured temperature preferences of 10 spiny-tailed agamas (Uromastyx acanthinura) in controlled indoor experiment. Each lizard could choose place in the terrarium before and after feeding. Then, temperature preferences during pre-feeding and post-feeding periods were compared. We found significant increase of preferred temperature after feeding. Detailed view revealed that there is consistent influence of body size: bigger lizards maintained higher temperature during the whole experiment. We hypothesize that bigger potential predation risk on smaller lizards due to their size would force them to choose less optimal conditions.

Content available remote The effect of body warming on respiratory system stress recovery in the rat
EN
The mechanical characteristics of respiratory system tissues include visco-elastic behaviour. In particular, after mechanical unloading, i.e., a reduction in respiratory system volume, the lower stress achieved slowly increases, approaching higher constant value, due to visco-elastic stress recovery. We performed experiments in which constant deflation flow arrest was applied in rats to study the successive pressure-time course, which defines the visco-elastic stress recovery. To investigate the possible effects of temperature changes, measurements were performed at two body temperatures, 36.6 +- 0.3 and 39.0 +- 0.1 degrees C. We found that stress recovery is reduced by increasing body temperature. Pressure-time curves after deflation arrest were fitted by specific mathematical model, and a good agreement was found. Model parameters exhibited significant changes with body temperature variations, suggesting that temperaturedependent micro-structural rearrangement phenomena in the tissues of alveolar wall were involved in the stress recovery decrement with body temperature increase. Thus, visco-elastic phenomena in respiratory system tissues of mammals exhibit temperature dependence. The stress recovery changes with body temperature suggest that expiration is expected to be easier in condition of physiological body temperature than in the case of increased temperature.

Thermography is a noninvasive diagnostic method applied in detection and visualization of superficial body temperature distribution. It is helpful in detection of sport overloads and the analysis of thermal reaction of soft tissues on mechanical deformation. The objective of this study was to analyze the changes of superficial body temperature after short-term application and removal of elastic tape used in kinesiotaping. The analysis was performed to define a method of such tape removal which would cause the minimal increase of superficial body temperature. The study included 47 students, with mean BMI (Body Mass Index): 20,85 kg/m2. The measurements were taken 5 times: before plaster application (1st measurement), after plaster removal (2nd measurement), after: 10 seconds (3rd measurement); 30 seconds (4th measurement) and 60 seconds (5th measurement) of plaster removal. The elastic plaster Kinesio Tex and stiff Omnifix plaster, were applied. The analysis of superficial body temperatures changes, depending on applied method of plaster removal (slowly and quickly), in most cases did not reveal statistically significant differences. The examination of body surface temperature distribution revealed the statistically significant lower temperature of measured area after removal of Kinesio Tex plaster, comparing to stiff plaster.

Celem pracy jest analiza zróżnicowania rozkładu temperatury powierzchniowej w różnych obszarach ciała pomiędzy grupą młodych zdrowych kobiet i młodych zdrowych mężczyzn. Badanie objęło 240 zdrowych studentów Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego we Wrocławiu, obojga płci, w wieku 20–25 lat. Przebadanych zostało 154 kobiet w wieku 19,32–25,92 lat (średnia wieku 21,58 š 1,55) oraz 86 mężczyzn w wieku od 19,38 do 25,34 lat (średnia wieku 22,22 š 1,64). Wykonano rejestrację rozkładu temperatur 29 obszarów ciała kamerą termowizyjną Flir Systems ThermoVision A20M. Przeprowadzone badania termowizyjne wykazały duże zróżnicowanie temperatury powierzchniowej w zależności od badanego obszaru ciała. W większości analizowanych rejonów ciała stwierdzono niższe temperatury w grupie badanych kobiet niż mężczyzn.

Maintenance of a constant body temperature is determined by the propoer physiological functions of the human organism. The thermal balance, resulting from the heat produced by the organism and the diffusion of the heat, is achieved by the precise biological regulation. The heat flow from the internal parts of the organism towards the superficial body layers and skin and in the opposite direction, requires the activation of the skin circulation. The aim of the study was to compare the temperature distribution within various body regions between healthy young men and women. The examination included 240 young healthy students of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw, aged 20-25 years, among them 154 women aged 19,32- 25,92 years (mean age 21,58 š 1,55), as well as men aged 19,38-25,34 years (mean age 22,22 š 1,64). The temperature distribution in 29 regions was recorded by means of thermovision camera Flir Systems ThermoVision A20M. Examination revealed that there are significant differences in the temperature, depending on the examined body region. Prevalently, the lower temperatures were noticed in women than in men.

The work presents the research results for calf temperature measurement using various measuring tools. Completed analyses have shown that the proposed touch measurement method for calf temperature using a thermistor installed in automatic feeding stations is unreliable and ineffective. It may be used only as a source of alarm signals in case of high calf body temperature. As concerns the calf body temperature measurement, using a thermovision camera is the most precise method, however a very high price is its disadvantage.

This work aims to study the usability of infrared thermography in swimming for the purpose of quantifying the influence of the swimming style on the cartographies of cutaneous temperatures of a swimmer. Only one subject took part in the experimental protocol, who was to accomplish a 4 × 100 m 4 medley. Thermal acquisitions followed by one period of recovery with return to thermal balance were carried out between particular strokes. IR thermography made it possible to discuss the influence of the swimming style on the distributions of cutaneous temperatures in various body zones. This process seems to be completely adaptable to the development of future statistical studies.

Five students of a rescue training school cycled at 50 W for 20 min at 20 oC before walking at 5 km/hr up to 30 min in a climatic chamber at 55 oC and 30% relative humidity. 4 different types of clothing ensembles differing in terms of thickness and thermal insulation value were tested on separate days. All subjects completed 28–30 min in light clothing, but quit after 20–27 min in 3 firefighter ensembles due to a rectal temperature of 39 oC or subjective fatigue. No difference in the evolution of mean skin or rectal temperature was seen for the 3 turnout ensembles. Sweat production amounted to about 1000 g in the turnout gears of which less than 20% evaporated. It was concluded that the small differences between the turnout gears in terms of design, thickness and insulation value had no effect on the resulting heat physiological strain for the given experimental conditions.

The purpose of this study was to develop a model for an integrated estimation of the functional state of the human organism (FSHO) and an integral estimation of physical factors (PF) for hygienic rating. Tests were performed twice with 3 men in 0.7-clo clothing during 4-hr mental work with 9 combinations of 4 PF: wideband noise (55–83 dB(A)), whole-body vibration (6 Hz, az =0.2–1.8 ms−2), air temperature (18–30 C), and illumination (1, 3, 5 lx). Thermoregulatory, cardiovascular, and psychophysiological reactions and temporary threshold of hearing (TTS2) shifts were studied. For the integral estimation of PF influence on FSHO the model F(y1, y2, ... ym) = f(x1, x2, ... xn) was used, relating both FSHO and PF sets. The most important physiological parameters in creating FSHO are defined and the contribution of individual parameters of FSHO and PF is found.

This study was designed to find the effects of two kinds of dust-free garments with (A) and without (B) frozen gel strip (FGS), and half-naked clothing (brassiere and shorts; C) on thermophysiological parameters and on temperature and humidity within clothing. The heart rate, rectal, and skin temperatures as well as sweat rate and clothing microclimate were measured during 140 min in 9 healthy females. Inquiries were also made into the subjective rating of thermal, humidity, and comfort sensations. The main findings in our experiments are as follows: (a) Physiological parameters such as rectal and skin temperatures (chest and forehead), heart rate, and sweat rate were clearly lowest in garb C, intermediate in garb A, and highest in garb B throughout the experiment; (b) Temperature and humidity within clothing were lower in garb A than in garb B; (c) More than half of the 9 participants decreased thermal sensation by wearing garb A. These results suggest that the usage of FGS could improve the heat load in lightly working participants wearing dust-free garments.
