In the optimizing procedure, use was made of the data sets obtained during 2-year operation of the municipal wastewater treatment plant, as well as of those acquired in the period of technological start-up. What needed optimization was the reduction in BOD5 and the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus (biogens). The study showed that if the Clean Water Act requirements are to be met, it is necessary to keep the SS content in the effluent below 20 g/m[3]. It is also advisable to control the concentration of the activated sludge and the performance of the system for sludge aeration.
