Purpose: The aim of the article was to indicate research methods and techniques used in management practice while taking into account the assumptions of Industry 4.0. Design/methodology/approach: In order to identify research methods and techniques, the author of the article made use of a survey questionnaire addressed to practitioners who were his target group: 52 foreign companies, 183 domestic companies. As a result of the research effort undertaken, the answers of 118 representatives of management science practitioners were analysed. Findings: The conclusions of the research indicated that the most important methods, according to management practitioners, were: observation, interview and documentation analysis. However, the most frequently used research techniques in practice include: analysis of business opinions, a probation period at the workplace, situation-related interview, knowledge test in a specific field, task-related behaviour samples, task skills test and analysis of informal client opinions. Research limitations/implications: At the stage of defining a research problem, it is now difficult to choose a single method that provides a complete and thorough diagnosis of the problem. It is, therefore, necessary to use a variety of research methods which provide a comprehensive response to the research problem posed. Practical implications: Optimization of strategic decision-making processes will depend on the situation the company is in. In a crisis situation, the most important thing is to make quick decisions triggering actions that would improve the company's competitive edge. That requires undertaking actions 'in parallel', i.e. not only reacting to the problems resulting from the current situation but also solving the issues related to the future, e.g. Industry 4.0, which is considerably difficult. Social implications: When analysing the obtained results, management practitioners stress that it is necessary to develop a model, procedure, tool, approach to the research process. Moreover, respondents also believe that the developed model, procedure, tool or approach in the selection of methods to the research process significantly affects the quality and practical use of research results. Originality/value: The analysis of the results clearly indicates the use of research techniques that are close to the task processes of companies and verify the competence of employees. Conclusions resulting from the analysis of national and foreign literature on research process methodology indicate the need to address the problem of using diversified research methods providing a comprehensive response to the problem posed in the context of Industry 4.0.

Purpose: The aim of the article was to verify whether methodological triangulation supports research processes in management science. Design/methodology/approach: In order to verify the hypothesis, quantitative research (survey questionnaire) and qualitative research (interview questionnaire) were conducted. Quantitative research was addressed to a group of management science theoreticians being a target group. As a result of the research effort undertaken, 401 representatives of management science theoreticians were examined. Findings: The statistical conclusions of the research conducted among management scientists clearly show that a significant proportion (66%) believes that methodological triangulation is a necessary condition in the research process. Moreover, as many as 82% of the above mentioned respondents claim that triangulation supports the research process. Originality/value: It is necessary to use a variety of testing methods that provide a comprehensive response to the posed research problem.

Purpose: The aim of the paper was to determine whether the purpose of the discipline, i.e. management science, is to support the practical aspects of economic life. Design/methodology/approach: In order to find answers to the said research questions, 401 theoreticians of management science were surveyed by means of an anonymous survey questionnaire. Findings: Conclusions resulting from the conducted research and the analysis of the literature clearly indicate the need to carry out research work embedded in both theoretical and practical terms. Originality/value: It is indicated that the main disadvantage associated with the management science is the impermanence of the claims made. It should be remembered that it also cover theoretical research within its scope, as no science can develop without theoretical background. It is also worth noting that the relationship between the management science and business practice is bilateral and additionally complex.

Omówiono referaty poświęcone zagadnieniom oceny i monitorowania rozwoju nowych materiałów elektrotechnicznych i nowoczesnych technik badawczych ich właściwości eksploatacyjnych. Problemy te dotyczą zarówno materiałów izolacyjnych jak i przewodzących. Przedstawiono także nowoczesne techniki diagnostyczne oraz metody analizy i interpretacji wyników badań procesów przemian w ich strukturach przy narażeniach elektrycznych, cieplnych i środowiskowych. Szczególnym zainteresowaniem objęte są nowe techniki badawcze mające zastosowanie do oceny stanu obiektów w ­elektroenergetyce. Tematami preferowanymi referatów były: kompaktowe systemy izolacyjne (AC i DC), nowe materiały oraz niestandardowe narażenia i nowe techniki badawcze.

Discussed are papers dedicated to problems of assessment and monitoring of the development of new electrotechnical materials and modern research techniques concerning their operational properties. One must remeber that these problems concern both insulation and conductive materials. Presented are also modern diagnostic techniques as well as analysis and interpretation methods concerning results of research on processes related to changes in these materials when exposed to electrical, thermal and environmental hazards. Particular attention is paid to new research techniques applied for assessment of technical condition of power industry facilities. Preferential subjects of the papers were AC and DC compact insulation systems, new materials as well as non-standard hazards and new diagnostic techniques.

Omówiono referaty poświęcone zagadnieniom oceny i monitorowania rozwoju nowych materiałów elektrotechnicznych i nowoczesnych technik badawczych ich właściwości eksploatacyjnych. Problemy te dotyczą zarówno materiałów izolacyjnych jak i przewodzących. Oprócz właściwości materiałów elektrotechnicznych omówiono problemy dotyczące ładunku przestrzennego i powierzchniowego oraz rozkładu potencjału i testów narażeń eksploatacyjnych. Przedstawiono także nowoczesne techniki badawcze i narzędzia diagnostyczne oraz metody analizy i interpretacji wyników badań procesów przemian w ich strukturach przy narażeniach elektrycznych, cieplnych, środowiskowych i innych. Szczególnym zainteresowaniem objęte są nowe techniki badawcze mające zastosowanie do oceny stanu obiektów w elektroenergetyce. Wiele miejsca poświęcono również właściwościom i zastosowaniom nowych materiałów, w tym nadprzewodzących, przyjaznych środowisku, a także materiałom do kształtowania pola elektrycznego.

Discussed were lectures dedicated to the problems of assessment and monitoring of new electrotechnical materials and modern research techniques of their operating properties, not forgetting about the fact that the problems concern both insulating and conducting materials. Apart from the properties of electrotechnical materials there were discussed problems referring to space and surface charges as well as to the potential distribution and operational hazards’ tests. Presented were also modern research techniques and diagnostic tools as well as the analysing and interpretation methods of testing results of transformation processes occurring in structures of electrotechnical materials exposed to electrical, heat, environmental and other hazards. Particular attention was paid to new research techniques used for condition assessment of the power industry facilities. Substantial space was also given to properties and applications of new materials including the environment-friendly superconductive ones and the ones for electric field shaping.

Występujące problemy jakościowe w lutowanych aluminiowych wymiennikach ciepła wymagają dokładnego określenia przyczyn ich powstawania. Dokładność badań analizujących te przyczyny zależy od zastosowanych technik badawczych. Dokładność badań natomiast, wpływa na prawidłową interpretację przyczyn powstawania wad. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono przykładowe wady w aluminiowych wymiennikach ciepła oraz sposób, w jaki zostały one zanalizowanie. Określono także przyczyny powstawania przykładowych wad przy zastosowaniu zaawansowanych technik badawczych.

The quality problems which appear in brazed aluminum heat exchangers require precise determination of their origin. Accuracy of investigations which analyze the problem origins depends on used investigation techniques and this accuracy in consequence determines correct determination of the problem root cause. In this work examples of faults as found in the aluminum heat exchangers were presented together with methodology of their analyses. Also the root causes were determined in each presented case.
