Przeciętne przedsiębiorstwa funkcjonują na poziomie jakości 3-4 sigma, Poniżej 3 sigma firmy zazwyczaj nie są w stanie przetrwać na konkurencyjnym rynku. Koszt zapewnienia jakości przy poziomie 3 sigma wynosi około 25-40% przychodów ze sprzedaży.

The paper presents two quality management solutions, i.e. Six Sigma and Poka-yoke. The authors show that the effects reached with poka-yoke match the economic objectives of Six Sigma implementation. Those include three areas of cost reduction: (1) savings reached thanks enhanced quality (2) lower resource engagement thanks to shorter production cycle, and (3) cost reduction through higher product reliability.

In process approach, proposed by the standard ISO 9001:2000, is very important a process "output", which very often forms parallely other process "input" in the next step of performance. Therefore every incorformity, causing irregulations in the technological process flow, influence on final effectiveness. The prevention of defects, what in Japanese means "poka-yoke", was applied systematically by first time in Toyota company. Practically it uses 2 parallel ways, prevention and posterior inspection of results. The dominant number of various error causes, depends really from "human beings". Therefore every man is so important from this point of view. From the other point of view, to the poka-yoke techniques belong so called idiot-proof techniques (resistent on stupidity) too, which are directed to customers, who present naturally very different intellectual and rational levels.. The inclusion of poka-yoke approach to productional processes assure much better the achievement of higher productivity, quality and effectiveness.
