One of the fastest growing trends in textile technology is the production of multifunctional composite nonwovens. Such materials are formed as a combination of components with different properties and/or produced by means of separate technologies, combining therefore the advantages of each of the components. With use of composite technology it is possible to design the material with the properties exceeding characteristics of its individual components. Improvement of functionality and usability, increased mechanical strength of the nonwoven structure, care for the environment, or reduction of the production costs are only few advantages of the composite nonwoven techniques. The article presents an overview of selected methods of manufacturing such nonwoven materials intended for use in purifying respiratory protective equipment.
