Methodology for measuring the carbonation depth of concrete - standard and non-standard aspects

Carbonation of concrete is a complex phenomenon, depending on many factors, including the heterogeneity of concrete, which results in an uneven carbonation front. The assessment of the depth of the carbonation front depends on the measurement technique adopted. The article summarizes the standard techniques for measuring the depth of carbonation and proposes an alternative measurement technique based on the measurement of the fields of the carbonated and noncarbonated surfaces, and then converting to the averaged depth of carbonation. For an example sample, the results obtained with different standard techniques and the proposed off-standard technique were compared.

Karbonatyzacja betonu jest zjawiskiem złożonym, zależnym od wielu czynników, między innymi niejednorodności betonu, z czego wynika nierównomierny front karbonatyzacji. Ocena głębokości frontu karbonatyzacji zależy od przyjętej techniki pomiaru. W artykule podsumowano normowe techniki pomiaru głębokości karbonatyzacji oraz zaproponowano alternatywną technikę pomiaru opartą na pomiarze pól powierzchni skarbonatyzowanej i nieskarbonatyzowanej, a następnie przeliczeniu na uśrednioną głębokość karbonatyzacji. Dla przykładowej próbki porównano wyniki otrzymane różnymi technikami normowymi oraz zaproponowaną techniką pozanormową.

Obecnie od architektury jako dziedziny zawodowej oczekuje się aktywnego uczestnictwa w rozwiązywaniu aktualnych problemów środowiskowych i społecznych, a od architektury jako kompetentnej i rzetelnej dziedziny naukowej oczekuje się zwiększenia ilości badań i ich zróżnicowania w zakresie wiedzy, osiągnięć i reprezentacji dyscypliny. Analizując wyzwania, przed jakimi stoi architektura, autorzy artykułu uważają, że projektowanie, stanowiąc istotę działań architekta, może być odpowiednim narzędziem, aby odpowiedzialnie kształtować otaczające nas środowisko, a także rozwijać architekturę jako rzetelną i wiarygodną dyscyplinę badań. Projektowanie jest działalnością z natury bogatą w wiedzę. Rozważając potencjał projektowania architektonicznego jako sposobu rozwiązywania problemów charakteryzujących się wysokim stopniem złożoności, w niniejszym artykule podjęto temat dotyczący badań poprzez projektowanie. Na podstawie badań literatury, obserwacji indywidualnych przypadków oraz własnego doświadczenia zawodowego w artykule podjęto próbę określenia niezbędnych warunków do przeprowadzenia badań poprzez projektowanie oraz przedstawiono strukturę procesu projektowego, który mógłby stać się podstawą do przeprowadzenia formalnej procedury badawczej. Autorzy artykułu reprezentują stanowisko, że umocowany w metodologii proces generowania wiedzy podczas projektowania może: pełnić funkcję pomostu łączącego badania teoretyczne z praktycznymi, ograniczyć dystans pomiędzy architektem praktykiem a architektem naukowcem, pozwolić docenić wiedzę praktyczną, a także pomóc architektom świadomie zaangażować się w poprawę jakości otaczającego nas środowiska.

Currently, architecture as a professional field is expected to actively participate in solving current environmental and social problems, and architecture, as a competent and reliable scientific field, is expected to increase the amount of research and its diversification in terms of knowledge, achievements and representation of the discipline. Analyzing the challenges faced by architecture, the authors of the article believe that design, being the essence of an architect's activities, can be an appropriate tool to responsibly shape the surrounding environment, as well as to develop architecture as a reliable and credible research discipline. Designing is an inherently knowledge-rich activity. Considering the potential of architectural design as a way of solving problems characterized by a high degree of complexity, this paper deals with the topic of research by design. On the basis of literature research, observation of individual cases and own professional experience, the article attempts to define the necessary conditions for conducting research through design and presents the structure of the design process that could become the basis for a formal research procedure. The authors of the article believe that the methodology-based process of generating knowledge during design may: act as a bridge connecting theoretical and practical research, reduce the distance between an architect-practitioner and an architect-scientist, will allow to appreciate practical knowledge, and will help architects consciously get involved in improving the quality of the surrounding environment.

Artykuł przybliża problematykę badań nad korupcją. Umiejscawia zjawisko korupcji w obszarze nauk o bezpieczeństwie i obronności, wskazuje możliwe spektrum badawcze, określa cele i specyfikę badań naukowych związanych z tym zagadnieniem, a także prezentuje wybrane metody przeprowadzania badań zjawiska korupcji. Autorzy podkreślają znaczenie i wpływ tego rodzaju badań na system bezpieczeństwa państwa.

The article discusses problems with research on corruption in the context of security and defense sciences; what is more, it indicates possible areas of research, the aim and specifics of research on corruption, as well as describes chosen methods of research. Regarding either the wide scope of the issue or conditions having an influence on the research results, the authors of the article are trying to struggle with a range of approaches throughout a revision of the latest domestic and foreign publications. At the same time they paid attention to the role of such research for the state security system.
