The article presents detailed two-phase adiabatic pressure drops data for refrigerant R134a. Study cases have been set for a mass flux varying from 200 to 400 kg/m2s, at the saturation temperature of 19.4°C. Obtained experimental data was compared with the available correlations from the literature for the frictional pressure drop during adiabatic flow. Influence of mixture preparation on pressure drop was investigated, for varying inlet subcooling temperature in the heated section. The flow patterns have also been obtained by means of a high-speed camera placed in the visualization section and compared with literature observations.

The results of experimental investigations of pressure gradient in a two-phase adiabatic flow in tubular minichannels are presented. The air-water mixture was used as a working fluid. Eight stainless steel tubular minichannels with internal diameters d[w] = 1.05 - 2.30 mm and section length 300 mm were used. The investigations were conducted in the following parameter range: mass flow rate of water 0.65 - 59 kg/h, mass flow rate of air 0.011 - 0.72 kg/h, mass fraction of air in the two-phase mixture x = 0.0003 - 0.22, and total mass flux (w[rho]) = 139 - 8582 kg/(m[^2] s). It was found, on the basis of the experimental investigations, that commonly used methods of evaluation of pressure drop in a two-phase flow provided poor results. It is therefore necessary to make some modifications to suit the description of two-phase flow in minichannels.
