The main goal of this paper is to present an introduction to the project of water storage tanks inspection robot. The basis of the introduction is an algorithm of design. This algorithm will simplify a process of design, making an order and showing most important stages of the process. Special emphasis is put on imitative and constructive analysis as the first stage of design process. Term "imitative analysis" means careful search in area of existing solutions which are connected with a problem of water tank inspection. Term "constructive analysis" means searching for still not existing solutions. A challenge of this stage will be finding solutions such as: tank constructions, methods of diagnosis of tanks, conditions in tanks, constructions of existing robots for tanks diagnosis, creating new methods of diagnosis, creating own propositions of robots, etc. It is essential to notice, that most of analyzed tanks are made from metal. But there are also reinforced concrete constructions of tanks. Therefore designers' team decided to begin research of this kind of tanks especially. This paper will present some of solutions mentioned above, which have been obtained during process of imitative and constructive analysis of robot's project.
