The main aim of the study was to design a new system to measure punching and kicking forces as well as reaction times in combat sport athletes. In addition, the study examined whether there were any intergender differences in the force of punches thrown by boxers and kicking forces delivered by taekwondo athletes. Boxers (male, n = 13; female, n = 7) were examined for the force of single straight punches and taekwondo athletes (male, n = 14; female, n = 14) for force of single Apdolio and Dwit Chagi kicks. The punching bag was equipped with acceleration transducers and gyroscopes embedded in a cylinder covered with a layer to absorb shock as well as a set of colour signal diodes. Value of the punching bag’s acceleration was used for calculating: strike force; the punching location on the bag; and time of a strike. The relative error of force calculation was 3%; the relative error in acceleration measurement was less than 1%. The force of a straight rear-hand punch was greater than the force of a lead-hand punch among male and female boxers. The force of Apdolio kick delivered with a rear leg was greater compared to a lead leg among female and male taekwondo athletes. Significant gender differences were noticed in the force in both types of kicks. In boxers, intergender differences were reported only for the force of a punch thrown with the rear hand. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the modified punching bag is a good diagnostic tool for combat sports.

Content available remote Kinematic analysis of the side kick in Taekwon-do
EN
The aim of the paper is to present the analysis of the influence of chosen kinetic factors on the side-kick technique. This issue is of a significant importance in the traditional version of Taekwon-do, where a single strike may reveal the winner. A male athlete, a black-belt holder, has participated in this case study. Generally accepted criteria of sports technique biomechanical analysis were adhered to. The athlete executed a side kick four times (in Taekwon-do terminology referred to as yop chagi) in a way most typical of his usual kick execution in board breaking. The parameter values obtained were used to determine the individual curves of the changes in velocities in the function of relative extension length of the kicking leg. The maximum knee and foot velocities in the Cartesian coordinate system were determined. The leg lifting time and the total time of kick execution as well as the maximum force which the foot exerted on the ground were also determined. On the basis of the values obtained the average values and the standard deviation were calculated. The correlation dependence (r = 0.97) shows that a higher knee velocity significantly affects the velocity which the foot develops and that the total time of kick execution depends on the velocity which the knee develops in the leg lifting phase (r = 0.75). The average maximum speed was obtained at the length of the leg equal to 82% of the maximum length of the fully extended leg. In the kicking technique used by the athlete, this length can be considered for this athlete the optimum value for achieving the maximum strike dynamics.

Celem pracy była ocena zależności wybranych parametrów dynamicznych różnych rodzajów wyskoków pionowych i czasu reakcji uderzeń nożnych u zawodników taekwondo WTF. Do pomiaru i rejestracji czasu reakcji wykorzystano system SCR_v_2.3 firmy "JBA" Zb.

The aim of the study was an estimation of relationships among selected dynamics parameters of different land of vertical jumps and reaction time of leg kicks in taekwondo WTF. Ten men attended the research (aged – 19 + or - l,6years old, body height – 180 + or - 7 cm, body weight – 75 + or - 7 kg). The sport level of competitors was between 1 kup (three persons) and 1 dan (seven persons). The required practise was at least 8 to 9 years. The power, height and the time of takeoff for various vertical jumps (one legged, two legged) were estimated. The SCR_v_2.3 system ("JBA" of Zb. Staniak) and self-made micro switches (Laboratory of Biomechanics, APF Warsaw) were used to measure the reaction time. Athletes executed 10 roundhouse kick (dollyo-chagi) by the rear leg during 1 minute. Every stroke was preceded by the flash signal. There were measured reaction time (since the flash signal till lifting the feet from the ground) and movement time (since lifting the feet from the ground till stroke against the aim). It can be concluded that the shorter reaction times had the athletes who had higher relative power ( R2=0,72) and shorter times of takeoff in multivertical jump (MVJ).
