The paper concerns the optimization of a tuned mass damper with inerter (TMDI) based on two strategies, i.e., the minimum amplitude in the resonance peak and minimum area under the frequency response curve. The optimization is based on real, accessible parameters. Both optimization procedures are presented in two steps. In the first one, two parameters of the TMDI are tuned (inertance and damping coefficient), while in the second one, three parameters (mass, inertance, and damping coefficient). We show that both strategies give the optimum sets of parameters and allow the reduction of the amplitude of the damped system.

The paper deals with the application of the continuous dynamic absorbers in vibration reduction problems in beams. The Euler-Bernoulli beam of variable cross-section is subjected to the concentrated and distributed harmonic excitation forces. The beam is equipped with a system of the continuous vibration absorbers. The problem of the forced vibration is solved employing the Galerkin’s method and Lagrange’s equations of the second kind. Performing time-Laplace transformation the amplitudes of displacement may be written in the frequency domain, similarly the time-averaged kinetic energy of any part of the beam. The results of some local and global vibration control optimization problems concerning the placement and parameters of the continuous vibration absorbers are presented.

The paper deals with the problem of parameters optimizations of multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMD) for multi-degree-freedom-system. Theoretical considerations have been illustrated by numerical examples.

In this paper the Lyapunov equation is used to analyse random vibration of building structure. The structures with mass dampers are considered. The excitation forces which are functions of fluctuations of wind velocity are treated as random forces. Lyapunov equation is used to determine root mean square of displacements. Results of example calculation are presented and briefly discussed.
