The paper presents the characteristics of geotechnical properties of loess occurring in the Nałęczów Plateau. The physical and mechanical properties of aeolian loess from the Kazimierz Dolny, Nałęczów and Lublin regions, obtained from field and laboratory tests, are compared. It has been shown that field methods, like static sounding CPT/CPTU, dilatometric DMT, vane FVT and pressuremetric PMT tests, are very useful for assessing the loess subsoil for construction purposes. The summary provides guidelines for the scope of loess subsoil tests and for design.
