An architectural work is generally understood as a three-dimensional creation which serves a specific purpose. However it is not dependant on the scale, area it occupies or the material from which it was made. Beauty may be variously understood, therefore it is not a criterion which distinguishes an architectural work whether or not it was created with the cooperation of professional architects or builders both before and after Vitruvius. That is what the excavation structures of the Wieliczka Salt Mine may be.
