Entrepreneurial digital strategy as managerial tool for building smart hospital

Purpose: to build the research model of Entrepreneurial Digital Strategy (EDS) as crucial managerial tool for shaping hospitals as smart, network oriented organisations. Design/methodology/approach: the main research method is a systematic literature review in order to conceptualize the EDS as crucial driver of shaping hospitals as smart, network oriented organisations. Statistical analyses using data from OECD Health were used to present chosen input and output indicators of Polish national healthcare system. Findings: the proposition of research model of EDS as the digital technology road map towards building the smart hospital based on cost and quality performance healthcare processes. Additionally, using chosen statistical data, the Polish national healthcare system in the world context is presented. Research limitations/implications: the concept of smart organization is still not widely recognized in management science, so it is difficult to create detailed model of hospital assessment as a smart organization. Simultaneously, the current scientific output consulting company knowledge in this field is enough to create especially strategic concepts of smart hospital. Practical implications: the draft of practical managerial tool for hospital managers who are going to transform their hospitals towards smart ones is presented in the article. Social implications: the article has a special social impact which consist of strategic management concept oriented towards managing the challenges of today hospitals (esp. public ones). These challenges are concentrated on simultaneous need for quality growth and cost reduction. Originality/value: the concept presented in the article is the part of assumptions of new managerial model suited for hospital transformation towards smart organization.

Nowa sytuacja, tj. pandemia wirusa SARS-CoV-2, zaowocowała szeregiem obostrzeń, nakazów i zakazów, które miały za zadanie umożliwienie funkcjonowania szpitali w rygorze pandemicznym, lecz okazały się bardzo nieprzyjazne dla pacjentów, obciążające psychicznie, a jednocześnie ujawniły brak elastyczności przestrzeni budynków szpitali i ich niepodatność na szybkie, łatwe do przeprowadzenia podziały oraz zmiany aranżacji. Obecna sytuacja epidemiczna zmusza projektantów i technologów medycznych do nowego podejścia do projektowania stref socjalnych pacjentów oraz personelu w sposób zaspokajający potrzeby użytkowników szpitali adekwatnie do możliwości technicznych XXI wieku. Rezultaty przeprowadzonych przez autorów badań to autorska koncepcja inteligentnych stref (smart zones) w szpitalu XXI wieku, mających potencjał zaspokajania potrzeb pacjentów w sposób innowacyjny, w odróżnieniu od tradycyjnych stref przestrzeni społecznych. Metodologię badań oparto na badaniach literaturowych, tzw. desk research, które przeprowadzono według metodyki „systematycznego przeglądu bibliografii naukowej”, pozwalającej na ustalenie stanu wiedzy poprzez przeszukiwania naukowych baz publikacyjnych. Posłużono się badaniami jakościowymi potrzeb użytkowników szpitala (studium przypadku) w okresie obostrzeń pandemicznych. Badania wykonano na próbie niereprezentatywnej, tzw. okolicznościowej, metodą POE (Post Occupancy Evaluation).

The new situation, i.e. the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, resulted in a number of restrictions, orders and bans, which were implemented to allow hospitals to function under pandemics. Results were very unfriendly to patients, psychologically burdening them, and at the same time revealed the lack of flexibility in the space of hospital buildings and the lack of susceptibility to quick, easy-to-implement rearrangements. The current epidemic situation forces architects and medical process designers to take a new approach to designing patient and staff social zones in a way that meets the needs of hospital users and is adequate to the technical capabilities of the 21st century. The result of the research conducted by the authors are the original concept of smart zones in a 21st century hospital. The proposed smart zones have the potential to meet patients' needs in an innovative way, unlike traditional zones of social spaces. The research methodology was based on literature research, the so-called "Desk research", which was carried out according to the methodology of the so-called "Systematic review of the scientific bibliography", allowing to determine the state of knowledge on the topic under consideration, by searching scientific publication databases. A qualitative study of the needs of hospital users during pandemic restrictions was also used. Made on a non-representative group of patients, (occasional), using POE (Post Occupancy Evaluation) method.

W artykule przeanalizowano warunki wdrażania systemów telemedycznych w krajowej służbie zdrowia. Opisano podstawowe technologie teleinformatyczne, które mogą być wykorzystane w telemedycynie. Omówiono bariery techniczne, ekonomiczne, prawne i organizacyjne, jakie należy pokonać przy wdrażaniu tych systemów. Przedyskutowano oczekiwania oraz opory, jakie występują wśród pracowników i studentów medycznych obszarów, w stosunku do zamiarów wprowadzania projektów telemedycznych.

In the presented paper the conditions of introducing telemedical systems in the national Health Service are analyzed. Basic teleinformatic technologies being able to be used in the telemedicine were described. Technical, economic, legal and organizational barriers which must be defeated at introducing these systems were shown. Expectations and oppositions which are appearing amongst workers and students of medical areas of the attitude to intentions of introducing telemedical projects were discussed.
