Facies patterns and depositional processes in two Frasnian mixed siliciclastic-carbonate systems in the Cantabrian Mountains, northwest Spain

Relative sea level fluctuations during the Frasnian generated two shallow-marine, mixed siliciclastic-carbonate successions in the Devonian Asturo-Leonese Basin. Each system represents a third-order sequence-stratigraphical unit deposited in the same basin during comparable extreme greenhouse conditions without nearby fluvial entry points. Depositional control on the siliciclastic and carbonate distribution was driven by relative sea level fluctuations, basin geometry, availability of sand and the way sediment was distributed by shelf currents. Early Variscan flexural bending of the continental crust changed the basin shape from a shelf with a gradual profile and low dip (early Frasnian) towards a shelf with a steep depositional dip (late Frasnian). Shelf distribution changed from along-shelf transport (early Frasnian) towards offshore-directed gravity flows (late Frasnian). As a consequence, siliciclastic-carbonate distribution changed from a predominance of skeletal carbonate in the proximal shoreface – foreshore area and siliciclastic predominance distally (early Frasnian), to a distribution pattern with proximal shoreface skeletal carbonates, offshore muddy carbonates and a siliciclastic zone in between where gravity flows distributed the siliciclastic sediment down dip (late Frasnian).

Artykuł jest propozycją metodyczną ilościowej oceny ciągów technologicznych kruszyw zależnie od sposobu połączeń jego elementów. Przedstawiono algorytm obliczeń prawdopodobieństwa pracy całego układu zależnie od sposobu połączeń w funkcji prawdopodobieństwa pracy każdego z elementów. Praca może mieć zastosowanie przy porównywaniu układów między sobą, a także przy ocenie pracy układów w kolejnych latach eksploatacji.

The article is a methodical proposal of the quantitative assessment of aggregate technological lines depending on the methods of connecting their elements. Aggregate technological systems vary considerably depending on the purpose of aggregates and customers’ requirements. The systems range from the simplest to more complex systems of serial, parallel and mixed connections. The operational reliability of systems is one of the basic factors determining the effects of operating a mine. One of the essential measures of the operation of systems is their operational probability which is their preparedness to operate. The paper presents an algorithm for the calculation of the probability of an entire system depending on the methods of connecting its elements in a function of the operational probability of each element. The paper may be also applied when comparing systems with one another, as well as evaluating the operations of systems in subsequent years of their functioning.

Wychodząc z założenia, że istotnym elementem wspólnej polityki społecznej UE powinien być system zabezpieczeń społecznych, w tym odpowiednie, tzn. gwarantujące godne życie, systemy emerytalne, treścią artykułu uczyniono ocenę reformy systemów emerytalnych w różnych krajach, w tym w Polsce. Podejmując ten problem, koncentruje się uwagę nie tylko na dotychczasowych osiągnięciach, w tym zakresie, teorii i praktyki krajów Unii Europejskiej, ale i na doświadczeniach Chile jako kraju, który pierwszy wprowadził otwarte fundusze emerytalne.

Assuming that an essential element of a common EU social policy should be a social security system, including an adequate, i.e. ensuring a decent life, pension systems, this article evaluates the reforms of pension systems in different countries, including Poland. The focus is not only on past achievements in this field, theory and practice of European Union countries, but also on the experiences of Chile as a country that pioneered the introduction of open pension funds.
