Presently,water power plants lose their purely economic significance.Projects realized in the past aimed only at obtaining energy, enhancement of ship traffic, or flood protection.Nowadays ecology,water resources economy and social aspects gain ever greater significance and need to be taken into account in the process of designing new power plants or modernizing the existing ones. The article presents a number of solutions applied in the Danube river basin, is Austrian section, to illustrate complex methodology of water power plant projects realization including requirements of the environment protection.
