Copper is one of the main components of friction materials used in vehicles’ brake systems. It is mainly used due to two features: good thermal conductivity and lubricity. Unfortunately, it is harmful no only to humans but also more to aquatic life. For this reason, there is an attempt to minimize its use. This paper presents the results of testing four groups of samples with different Cu contents (5, 10, 15, and 20%). Laboratory tests were performed using calorimetry, hot wire method, and pin-on-disc method. This allowed to determine selected physico-chemical material properties of samples, which were then used for simulation studies. They were intended to check how the heating process of friction materials with a chemical composition such as made samples will proceed in real conditions, in real brake pads.

Attempt to raise train speed involves application of greater braking power i.e. braking systems rapidly absorbing and dispersing stored heat energy. Work instability arises from the occurrence of vibrations on friction element, which affects the lower efficiency of the braking process. In practice, this means that, during braking the vehicles currently alternative at a time of friction resistance may cause uneven braking process. The effects of these changes can manifest in the form of vibrations the high amplitude of the input. The vibrations generated by the assemblies are moved per vehicle, which also adversely affects ride comfort. The purpose of this article is to determine the resonant frequencies of the selected elements of the railway disk brake.

Content available remote Choosing a model to research temperature fields in automobile wheel disk brakes
EN
Disk brake mechanisms are widely used in automobile construction at present, their major advantage being high stability. With the brakes stability depending, to a great extent, on the temperature mode, it is of practical importance to do some research into the latter. Wide application of computing thermal physics in the field of bearing technology based on modem thermal models and the means of their solution including information and software, made it possible to investigate these processes in more detail. The paper presents the results of investigation into variable temperature fields in disk brakes obtained by computer simulation with the use of invertion metod. It is shown that the temperature difference between the disk surface under the lining and the surface freed from under it is only 5.8°C, the fact that proves that the process is very short and has no essential effect on the disk cooling per a wheel rotation. The processes of emergency braking affecting temperature stresses in a disk have also been investigated.
