The paper identifies the most important reasons for weakening the credibility of management system certificates. Proposals relating to changes in the approach to the process of certifying these systems have been formulated. Special attention has been turned to the necessity of reducing direct financial dependencies between the certifying unit and the certified one. The possibility of making use of a multilevel concept has been suggested, according to CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration), employed in the organisations operating in the IT sector.
