The 4th daughter directive to the air quality directive of the EC that was passes by the parliamentary bodies of the EC in December 2004, sets among others a target value of 1 ng/m3 for the concentration of Ben-zo(a)pyrene in ambient air. The demands of the 4th daughter directive should be met in the year 2013. Presumably this exacting target value cannot be met at present in the ambient air of numerous coke plants which are already in operation. The plant operators of the majority of coke plants in Europe will have to adjust themselves to enter into tough discussions related to emission control with the supervisory authorities. One have to assume that for the approval of new plants, more stringent standards for emissions control will most ccnainly be imposed that will ensure the compliance with the new ambient air stand.The minimum requirement plant operators in Europe are faced with in future is the realization of the state of the art in technology as described in the BREF document. Further demands can't be excluded in order to come closest to the desired air quality standard. With view to the new EU regulations concerning BaP primary measures for a causal reduction of the driving force for emissions at oven opening were developed by DMT. A new door sealing concept, the PRO-ven-process and a new levelling system have shown their potential for an important emission reduction. Meanwhile the developed solutions have found its way into industrial practice.

Czwarta dyrektywa uzupełniająca do dyrektywy UE w sprawie jakości powietrza ustala między innymi wartość docelową stężenia benzo((7)pire-nu (BaP) w powietrzu na poziomie l ng/m3. Wymagania tej dyrektywy wejdą w życie w 2013 r. Prawdopodobnie ta wymagająca wartość nie mogłaby być dotrzymana obecnie w otoczeniu szeregu eksploatowanych aktualnie koksowni. Operatorzy instalacji w większości koksowni europejskich będą musieli przygotować się do poważnej dyskusji o kontroli emisji ze stosownymi organami władzy. W artykule przedstawiono nowe rozwiązania techniczne opracowane w DMT. Są to: nowy system uszczelniania drzwi piecowych, system regulacji ciśnienia w pojedynczej komorze koksowniczej - PROven oraz nowa konstrukcja drąga wyrównawczego. Wszystkie przedstawione rozwiązaniaprzyczyniają się do redukcji emisji BaPz baterii koksowniczej.
