As part of this research, a computer model of the existing bidirectional single-track railway line section between Zagreb Glavni and Turopolje railway stations has been developed, and it has been modified with the aim of developing a new model of the double-track line on this line section, and which in relation to the existing conditions also includes additionally the new stop Donja Lomnica. The purpose of developing the new model of the double-track line is to study the possibility of introducing a new plan of cyclic timetable of the suburban and regional trains that would significantly improve the quality of existing service in railway suburban traffic of the city of Zagreb. The procedure of single-track line model modification has been performed based on simulation of railway operations in the station areas with the aim of improvement of line capacity necessary for introduction of new solution of the cyclic timetable. Within this approach, the solutions for modification of railway infrastructure in stations have been selected which have proven to be the best regarding the achievement of the mentioned purpose. As part of this work, a new solution of cyclic timetable of suburban and regional trains on the new model of the double-track railway line has been proposed by taking into consideration the existing characteristics of traffic of other trains on the observed railway line section, as in Zagreb Glavni railway station which represents the main node in the network. Stability of this cyclic timetable has been tested by the application of three different simulation scenarios. The results of this research have proven that the introduction of the new model of double-track line can enable stable application of the proposed cyclic timetable.

In the field of railway transport many activities are taken to achieve higher availability of offered services. A few of them consider more flexible rules of creating and starting trains. This requirement translates into greater complexity of railway traffic opertional management and control (RTMC). At the Faculty of Transport of Warsaw University of Technology classes for students have been conducted for several years with the use of the KSR-EDU stand. Taking into account the described trends of railway traffic nature, the KSR-EDU stand was connected to a simulator of real railway traffic. This connection allows to practice various and more complicated movement scenarios. The article describes RTMC layer model and simulator architecture in general. Two simulation tasks are described in details. The algorithms of simulation tasks for different levels of simulation are presented. In the end the benefits arising from application of the simulation for particular didactic tasks are discussed.

Artykuł porusza zagadnienie symulacji komputerowej rzeczywistego ruchu pociągów po sieci kolejowej i jej praktycznego wykorzystania w szkoleniu pracowników kolei. Przytoczone są rozważania na temat zakresu symulacji ruchu rzeczywistego dla różnych podsystemów systemu kierowania i sterowania ruchem kolejowym. W artykule wskazano na różnorodność algorytmów symulacji i konieczność ich doboru do rodzaju szkolenia. Przykładem są rozwiązania zastosowane na stanowisku dydaktyczno-badawczym kierowania i sterowania ruchem w Laboratorium Zakładu Sterowania Ruchem Wydziału Transportu PW.

Some issues on simulation of real railway traffic on the rail network area as well as its practical usage for training of railway employees have been discussed in the article. Some considerations on the scope of rail traffic simulation for different subsystems of the rail traffic supervisory and control system have been cited. The diversity of simulation algorithms and necessity of their right selection have been indicated. Example solutions have been described for the point of the rail traffic supervisory and control view, placed in the Laboratory of Interlocking Systems at the Transport Faculty of Warsaw University of Technology.
