The basic goal of the research is to recognize the situation and the level of eco-innovation in Poland, including the MSME sector and to compare the obtained results with the ones from EU countries. The result of the research is indicating the barriers and opportunities to support the development of eco-innovation in the MSME sector in Poland. Moreover, there has been made an assessment of effectiveness of the financing of eco-innovation by micro-, small and medium enterprises, and in particular the assessment of determinants affecting the selection of sources of funding of eco-innovation, including the use of structural funds.

Podstawowym celem badań jest rozpoznanie stanu i poziomu ekoinnowacji w Polsce, w tym w sektorze MMSP, oraz porównanie otrzymanych wyników z krajami Unii Europejskiej. Efektem tych badań jest wskazanie barier i możliwości wsparcia rozwoju ekoinnowacji w sektorze MMSP w Polsce. Ponadto przeprowadzono ocenę efektywności finansowania ekoinnowacji przez mikro, małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa, a w szczególności ocenę determinant wpływających na wybór źródeł finansowania ekoinnowacji, w tym wykorzystania funduszy strukturalnych.

The economic and environmental barriers belong to the important problems of present economic sciences, especially the sustainable development economy. In the article author introduced the ways of understanding of the economic and environmental barrier in the Polish literature. He also talked over the chosen conceptions of the environmental barrier, introduced by some explorers and level of investigations over this type limits in Poland.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zrównoważonego rozwoju jako nowego paradygmatu badań ekonomicznych, który warunkuje wydzielenie się ekonomii zrównoważonego rozwoju jako nowego obszaru badawczego i nowej specjalizacji w dziedzinie ekonomii. Zakres artykułu ograniczono do omówienia problemu współczesnego rozumienia pojęcia bogactwa narodów, roli kapitału środowiska i kapitału natury w kreowaniu tego bogactwa, ze szczególnym zaakcentowaniem znaczenia usług środowiska.

The article points out reasons for a change in the paradigm of economics. Instead of the "invisible band of the market", the sustainable development paradigm bas been suggested here. The hitherto prevailing paradigm supported the colonization of nature and efficiently hampers solution of the problem of decreasing the anthropogenic burden of ecosystems, especially of the biosphere. A glance at management processes through the prism of sustainable development forces revaluation of many economic categories. It gives a chance to undertake the difficult process of nature decolonization. The article focuses on the analysis of two new categories: prosperity of nations and environmental services which were not used in mainstream economics. They present, in a different light, the problem of organization of economic processes and measurement of management effects.
