The paper presents the characteristics of lump bog ore as an original building material. In architec¬ture, bog ore was used as both a construction and decorative stone. The use of this rock material was determined, among other things, by its easy accessibility, colour qualities and ability to prevent dampness inwalls. In Poland, it is possible to see buildings dating from various historical epochs (10th-21st c.). Buildings made of bog ore are concentrated only in certain regions of Poland, where they are an important element of the cultural landscape and historical heritage. They are also interesting geoturistic objects. The paper also characterizes selected physico-mechanical properties of the bog ore from Ruda Milicka and Książ Śląski. The determinations of these parameters (density, bulk density, open porosity, total porosity, absorbability at atmospheric pressure, abrasiveness, compressive strength) were made in accordance with PN-EN standards.

Jednym z charakterystycznych dla Krakowa surowców kamiennych jest fioletowo-różowej barwy porfir permskiego wieku. Surowiec ten stosowany był głównie jako material brukarski na nawierzchnie ulic, placów i chodników. Złoża tej skaty znajdują się w obrębie monokliny śląsko-krakowskiej w okolicy Krzeszowic, gdzie byty eksploatowane w rejonie Miękini i Zalasu od co najmniej XVIII wieku. Pozostałością tej eksploatacji są opuszczone kamieniołomy o dużej wartości dla historii górnictwa oraz o ciekawych i zróżnicowanych walorach geologicznych.

The violet-pink porphyry of the Permian age is one of the characteristic building stones of Cracow, where the rock was used mainly as a paving material in streets, squares and pavements. The deposits of this porphyry are situated within the Silesia-Cracovian monocline close to Krzeszowice, where they have been worked in the area of Miękinia and Zalas at least since the 18th century. Abandoned quarries witness to those activities; they are interesting and diversified sites for geological observations and represent objects important for the history of mining.
