Bullying is an informal system of norms and rules of conduct created by and functioning among regular service soldiers. These rules define a position of every soldier in the informal hierarchy and social structure of the military subunit and the army. Although the official military hierarchy does not tolerate bullying, the forms of counteracting it have so far been little effective. The sociotechnical project, which would help in identifying factors proving the fact of existence of bullying in the army and further correct this pathological situation, should be, in the author's opinion, implemented by special team in the form of social experiment.

The author discusses the problem of bullying in the army. She defines it, among others, as aggression present in human relations. Then she focuses on the reasons why some informal customs appear in the army. She points to the background society of the regular service soldiers, the essence of military system, the attitude of personnel towards bullying and the soldier's tradition. As violence is associated with informal customs in the army, the article also deals with the effects of physical, emotional, sexual and negligence abuse. The author, a psychologist in the Navy, categorized her examples of bullying according to the Beaufort scale: from 0 to 11, and discussed them.
