Contemporary development tendencies of troops supply systems are largely connected with the character of operations on the contemporary battlefield. The military technical progress, constant improvement of armament, fast speed and manoeuvrability of contemporary military operations increased the fighting forces’ need for different kinds of supply means, ammunition including. This significantly complicated the process of supplying them on the battlefield. It is commonly understood that only possessing adequate number of armament and ammunition is a necessary condition of conducting effective combat by brigades, units and sub-units. This ammunition, especially used during combat operations, should be systematically and in due time replenished to appropriate amounts. This requires organising an efficient system of ammunition supply which is also related with its storage and distribution according to required number and kind. Therefore, constant supply with enormous amount of ammunition and materiel (so called feeding the battlefield) can only be possible due to technical progress in transport means and organisational changes in reloading work so as transport means should be loaded as fast as possible. In order to deliver the increasing volume of ammunition without breaks or delays, technical progress and also purely military reasons prompted new solutions which should be used in supply, namely the use of pallets and containers.
