The main focus in this chapter is diversification of the definitions of the following notions: leadership, supervision, management. The existence of various types of leaders, supervisors, managers has been emphasized. The supervisors’ features were assessed based on the rules 4E+1P, which prove their value in revealing the leadership characteristics of the management personnel.

The concept of career is most commonly associated with large companies, corporations, where the newly adopted employee has the lowest position, gaining relevant experience and then “goes up”, taking higher position, sometimes ending up as president, director or board member. But career paths are also present in smaller enterprises. One such example is the career path that employees stay, from enterprise in Czestochowa, dealing with green areas. Despite the fact that the path is short, it represents a string of career path, beginning by the newly hired employee by the company.

Purpose Both, theorists and practitioners of management emphasize that staff competence increasingly influences the proper operation of modern enterprises. This is significant not only when acquiring satisfactory work efficiency, but in connection to the required level of safety. Methods The aim of the research presented in this article is to determine essential issues in the area of underground coal mines supervisors (middle level managers) with regard to the safety level in coal mines. The research methods include survey, PAPI technique (Paper-and-Pencil-Interviewing) and a questionnaire. Supervisors from three mines participated in the research. The sample test was conducted deliberately, using a proportional scheme including the position in the supervisory department and the department type. Results Analysis of the results allowed for the evaluation of the twelve sub-categories of supervisors competence and knowledge level and their impact on the effectiveness of the maintenance of security. Moreover, the correlation between the determined level of separate competence sub-categories and their influence on the level of safety enabled the prioritization of the level of a lack of competence in reference to proper work safety maintenance. Practical implications The knowledge acquired on supervisors competence is to be applied to the prevention programme as a part of the following programme: "Methods of diagnosis and reduction programme of adverse effects related to the underground use of technical means..." (PBS, NCBiR No 1519/2012). Originality/ value The theoretical section of the article includes the original definition and competence model, as well as a model of compe-tence impact on the safety level in an enterprise. The approach to the research problem is also valuable – the issues of underground coal mines supervisors competence have been for the first time directly connected with the underground safety level.

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors have been widely used in many field of drives for their high power/weight, high torque, high efficiency, long operating life, noiseless operation, high speed ranges and ease of control. In this paper, a Neuro-Fuzzy Controller (NFC) based on supervisory learning is presented for the speed and torque control of BLDC motors to enhance high control performance of the drive under transient and steady state conditions. This designed controller is combination of Neural Networks (NNs) and Fuzzy Logic (FL), therefore has parallel processing and learning abilities of NNs and inference capacity of FL. For improvement the performance of leaning algorithm and thereupon increase efficiency of drive, instead of usual Error Back Propagation (EBP) learning technique, a fuzzy based supervisory learning algorithm is employed. The proposed controller has simple structure and also due to its modest fuzzy rule in rule-base is relatively easy for implementation. This controller has high accuracy, suitable performance, high robustness and high tracking efficiency. In order to demonstrate the NFC ability to tracking reference speed and torque and also test of robustness and rejection ability of controller against undesired disturbances or suddenly changes in speed and torque, these designs are simulated with MATLAB/SIMULINK. In some cases, results are compared with that of a conventional PID controller and other designs.

W artykule zaprezentowane układ sterowania bezszczotkowym silnikiem DC z wykorzystaniem sterownika Neuro-Fuzzy.

In the modern world competences become a determinant of an individual. They pervade every sphere of human life, especially business one where they are consciously used to build the competitive advantage. The term of competences is broad and complicated and although they constitute a crucial element of human professional development their character and substance are not defined precisely. Almost each work on competences presents the problem in a different light and different context. Speaking about a company success we should focus our attention on the management competences. The aim of this work is to present the results of research on defining a discrepancy between possessed and desirable competences of management.

The supervision of complex manufacturing systems is handled in this paper. Production lines of manufacturing systems are understood here to be hybrid agents. Such an agent expresses continuous material flow together with a set of imperative discrete operations. In other words, the hybrid agent makes a cooperation of continuous and discrete event devices possible. The results are applied to complex continuous manufacturing system. First Order Hybrid Petri Nets (FOHPN) are utilized in order to model the elementary autonomous hybrid agents. The cooperation of hybrid agents is based on the DES (discrete-event systems) control theory. It is realized by means of DES supervision methods and the agent negotiation is based on place/transition Petri nets (P/T PN). The proposed approach is illustrated in details on the cooperation of hybrid production lines in the real complex manufacturing systems recycling waste plastics into plastic bags. The usefulness and applicability of the approach consists especially in the fact that the procedures in analytical terms can be employed. In such a way the approach turns lucid also in complicated cases.

This article presents considerations for the use of information technology in support of underwater work. Noted the complexity of systems supporting diving bell and decompression chamber as an area of deployment of modern solutions. Proposed to use expert systems as a tool for supporting the head of diving and divers in the process of decision-making in emergency situations.
