Oxidation of some organic compounds of chlorine, sulphur and nitrogen with the application of platinum, copper-zinc and vanadium catalysts has been investigated. The optimum conditions of total oxidation of chlorine compounds were: temperature range 350-400 °C and contact time of 0.36 - 1.00 s. The most toxic congeners of polychlorinated dioxins and furans were not present in gaseous products. Gaseous reaction products contained only trace concentration (lower than 0.1 ng TEQ/m3) of other congeners of polychlorinated dioxins and furans. The substances like organic sulphur compounds require temperatures above 500°C on platinum catalysts and above 600°C on copper-zinc catalysts during oxidation. The conversion degree above 90% was reached at contact time of even 0.01 s during oxidation. The investigations described in this paper allow to prove that the thermocatalytic oxidation is an efficient method for treatment of toxic organic compounds contained in industrial wastes.
