By polycondensation of styrene with furfural obtained new polymer which can be used as a polymeric matrix for introduction ionogenic groups. Methods of the chemical analysis, IR- and mass-spectroscopy confirm structure of obtained polymer. By sulfonation of styrene-furfural polymer obtained and researched the sulfonic acid cation-exchange resin with high chemical and thermal, and mechanical durability.

Cotton fabrics were modified by different methods such as oxidation, sulfonation and crosslinking processes. The modified and unmodified fabrics were subjected to weight measurements, water absorbency and strength tests. In SEM analysis, modified fabrics showed improved woven pattern with less protruding fibres in x 75 magnification and swollen smooth rod like appearances in x 1500 magnification than in unmodified fabrics. Modified fabrics were dyed with Reactive Red 120 and Direct Blue 86 under alkaline condition with low salt content. The modified fabrics showed improved dye uptake than unmodified fabric. Crosslinking modification was found to be very effective than sulfonation modification. Dye uptake and wet fastness properties were improved for modified fabrics. For a 0.5% dye concentration study, the dye uptake obtained for modifications is ranked as UM < 1W < 2W < 4W < 3W in reactive dyeing and UM < 1W < 4W <2W <3W in direct dyeing.
Opracowano metodę homogenicznego sulfonowania polisulfonu kwasem acetylosiarkowym uzyskiwanym z bezwodnika kwasu octowego i stęż. kwasu siarkowego.

In this work the new method of homogeneous sulfonation of polysulfone with acetylsulphuric acid is presented. Acetyl sulphuric acid was obtained from acetyl anhydride and conc. sulphuric acid and used for sulfonation of polysulfone in dichloroethane solution. Following parameters of the reaction were applied: -acetyl sulphuric acid/polysulfone ratio 4/1, 6/1 and 8/1; -60 and 80o C; -4,6 and 8 h. Max degree of substitution DS = 0,44 was obtained at 4/1, 80o C and 8 h. SO3 groups are located at o- position in isopropylidinene ring of polysulfone.
