W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań in vitro wybranych właściwości fizykochemicznych i tribologicznych śliny ludzkiej, własnych preparatów i handlowych substytutów śliny dostępnych na polskim rynku.

In this work, the results of in vitro studies of selected physical, chemical, and tribological properties of human saliva, self-made preparations, and commercial saliva substitutes available on the Polish market, have been presented. The pH value, absolute viscosity, as well as the friction coefficient and volumetric wear of the tribological pair tested in the environments of saliva and saliva substitutes were evaluated. The obtained results of studies showed differences between the tested preparations in the scope of the evaluated parameters. The best among the self-made preparations, in terms of tribological properties, was a type III mucin solution in a buffered saline solution.

The purpose of this paper is evaluation of the influence of human saliva and its substitutes on the corrosion re sistance of some implant alloys used in stomatology, which included: austenitic steel (316L), titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V), and cobalt alloy (CoCrMo). Corrosion studies were conducted by means of the potentiodynamic method with the application of the VoltaLab 21 kit with VoltaMaster 4 software. The reference electrode was a saturated calomel electrode (SCE), whereas the counter electrode was a platinum electrode. The results of conducted studies indicate an increased current density in the passive range on potentiodynamic curves of studied alloys in the envi- ronment of human saliva, and also in a commercial saliva solution – Mucinox. On the basis of conducted corrosion studies, it can be stated that in terms of corrosion resistance the developed saliva substitutes may constitute competitive solutions to commercial saliva substitutes. The prepared substitutes should be studied further from the perspective of practical application for patients. The original value of the paper is a proposition of new saliva substitutes.

The present paper describes the results of tests on the influence of human saliva and its substitutes on tribological characteristics of implant materials on the example of the Ti-6Al-4V (a-Ti) titanium alloy. The saliva substitutes were prepared on the basis of pyrophosphates and mucins dissolved in saline buffer. The results of the presented tribological tests show that the values of the parameters under research varied from each other, while much similarity was observed between the evaluated level of wear characteristics after the friction process in the human saliva environment and that in the environment of one of the mucins tested. The microscopic observations of surfaces of the a-Ti samples after friction revealed varied forms of tribological wear. Infrared microspectroscopy studies of surfaces of the a-Ti samples after friction revealed the presence of secondary lubricating films based on mucin found in the artificial saliva solutions.
