Second-cycle Electronics and Telecommunications Program with Project Based Learning Approach

The paper presents a new second-cycle Electronics and Telecommunications study program that has been running in Lodz University of Technology since 2020. The concept of the program uses the Project Based Learning approach and it is based on three main projects implemented throughout the curriculum. The inspiration was the programs of three foreign universities and extensive research of various groups of stakeholders. The initial evaluation of the program first semester proves high acceptance and satisfaction of the students.

Interdisciplinarity in the humanities and its importance for applied ethics

At present, there is a renewed interest in interdisciplinarity in connection with the new mission of the humanities. It is related to their longer-term adaptation to new scientific challenges and social trends. Also, in Slovakia, there is a strong call for a more active activation of the humanities to interdisciplinary cooperation and participation in social change. It is necessary to overcome these barriers and their relative closure. The paper discusses the basic attributes of interdisciplinarity, its application possibilities and social significance. Interdisciplinary approach and its correct understanding can become a constructive tool in the humanities, in the creation of integrated research projects, for their acceptance in practice. The innovative force of applied ethics is related to the availability of competence in interdisciplinarity.

Spadek zainteresowania kierunkiem studiów „Elektronika i Telekomunikacja” w Politechnice Łódzkiej każe przyjrzeć się bliżej potencjalnym jego przyczynom. Jedną z nich może być brak jednoznacznie określonych celów kształcenia w świetle zatrudnialności przyszłych absolwentów. Artykuł opisuje jedno z działań podjętych w celu identyfikacji przyczyn zaistniałej sytuacji. Polega ono na uporządkowaniu oferty przedmiotów do fakultatywnego wyboru poprzez czytelne określenie trzech specjalności. Proponowane rozwiązanie ma ułatwić studentom wybór preferowanych ścieżek kształcenia przy jednoczesnym uproszczeniu procesu dydaktycznego pod względem organizacyjnym. Zaproponowany podział na specjalności oraz dobór przedmiotów tych specjalności jest wynikiem analizy rynku pracy oraz preferencji studentów z lat wcześniejszych.

The decline in interest in the "Electronics and Telecommunications" field of study at the Lodz University of Technology requires a closer look at its potential causes. One of them may be the lack of explicitly defined learning objectives in the light of the employability of future graduates. The article describes one of the actions taken first to identify and clearly define these causes and then to re-formulate the specialties in the study program that will be based on the existing offer of the elective subjects. The proposed solution is aimed at helping the students to choose their preferred learning pathways while optimizing the teaching process in terms of organization. The syllabus of the specialties and the selection of subjects composing them are based on the analysis of the labour market and students’ preferences in the previous years.

Our paper reviews transformations underwent by the University of Petroșani - a comprehensive academic institution from Hunedoara County - in its attempt to adjust its educational internal configuration to unprecedented changes occurred in the labor market. The paper is organized as follows. Section one focuses on the main demographic trends with a significant impact on the labor market dynamics in Romania. Section two explores metamorphosis made, over the time, by the management of the University of Petroșani in order to meet new challenges on the labor market. Section three takes a closer look on the involvement of the University of Petroșani in POSDRU European projects, with the specific aim of facilitating graduates’ integration on the labor market. Finally, section four concludes.

Artykuł stanowi przegląd przemian, jakie przeszedł Uniwersytet Petroşani - wszechstronna uczelnia z powiatu Hunedoara - w próbie dostosowania jego wewnętrznej struktury edukacyjnej do bezprecedensowych zmian, jakie nastąpiły na rynku pracy. W artykule wyodrębniono cztery sekcje. Sekcja pierwsza skupia się na jednym z głównych trendów demograficznych mających znaczący wpływ na dynamikę rynku pracy w Rumunii. Sekcja druga bada przemiany dokonane przez kierownictwo Uniwersytetu Petroşani w celu sprostania nowym wyzwaniom na rynku pracy. W sekcji trzeciej bliżej przedstawiono udział Uniwersytetu Petroşani w projektach europejskich POSDRU, których celem było ułatwienie integracji absolwentów z rynkiem pracy. W sekcji czwartej podsumowano działania i ich efekty.
