The paper mainly aims to characterise project management (PM) practices of industrial Lean initiatives by analysing and comparing three main topics: PM approaches, PM teams, and project alignment with the company’s strategy. This research encompasses two exploratory industrial case studies with an extensive literature review. Key professionals were interviewed to obtain an in-depth vision of the field. The study results allowed characterising project management practices of industrial Lean initiatives in industrial companies based on the following dimensions: 1. Understand the needs; 2. Find a suitable team; 3. Use visual tools; 4. Apply a continuous improvement (CI) approach; 5. Identify KPIs for the context; 6. Get support from the top management. This work fills a gap related to studying the PM practices applied during the implementation of Lean initiatives, proposing a schematic representation of PM variables and actors in industrial Lean initiatives. Identifying the main variables and actors that industrial companies use to develop Lean initiatives can be insightful for Lean practitioners in the context of project management.

Purpose: The aim of this article is an attempt to prove the hypothesis, that one of the key obstacles for growth of Polish SMEs is a lack of management succession, understood as the employment of a professional management team and/or allowing for an external investor. Design/methodology/approach: In this article the authors used external studies, industry reports and data published by domestic and international statistical offices and financial institutions. In order to draw conclusions, the authors used the comparative analysis of available statistical data and case studies of five Polish companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Findings: Findings include: 1. characteristics of the SME sector and its importance for the Polish economy, 2. explaining the role of management succession in the growth of the company and identifying barriers to this process, 3. indicating relationship between size/success of the company and presence of professional management and corporate governance, 4. presenting the impact of institutional environment on management succession, 5. showing the relationship between success of selected Polish companies and their management succession model. Research limitations/implications: The space of management succession in Polish companies has never been a subject to any comprehensive research neither in the theoretical, nor in statistical dimension. To better understand the actual scope, forms, limitations and effects of the succession, the authors made an empirical research based on a representative sample of 200 Polish SMEs. Findings from this research will be published in a separate paper. Practical implications: The authors see the practical effects of sharing the results of this research mainly in the possibility of changing the skeptical behavior of Polish entrepreneurs towards management succession. Originality/value: The originality of the article results from the multifaceted approach to the research problem, which has no equivalent in the domestic literature. It is important for management practitioners and for setting directions for further research.

W dobie znacznego rozwoju technologii informatycznych oraz szeroko pojętej telekomunikacji, w budownictwie pojawiła się naturalna konieczność opracowania i wdrożenia jednolitego systemu modelowania informacji cyfrowej. Szybki rozwój technologii projektowania w dziedzinie architektury, inżynierii i budownictwa stale dostosowywał aparat pojęciowy dotyczący modelowania informacji o budynku i budowlach (BIM).

In the era of great development of information technologies and the wider telecommunications, appeared a natural need to develop and implement a unified system of digital building information modeling. The rapid development of design technology in the field of architecture, engineering and construction, continuously adapt the conceptual apparatus for building information modeling and buildings (BIM). BIM Technology adopts a new definition, as a universal tool for describing various elements of intelligent virtual 3D model of a building combining a series of sequential steps related to the investment, such as requirements of design, construction, operation and demolition optimizations and preparations. In the article, the authors review the different stages and trends in the development of BIM concept based on the example of the four case studies of real estate projects in which BIM elements have been adopted by the participants of the project. The article presents both benefits and problems arising in the practical implementation of BIM, indicating the recommendations for future users

Many incidents have occurred because organisations have failed to learn from lessons of the past. This means that there is room for improvement in the way organisations analyse incidents, generate measures to remedy identified weaknesses and prevent reoccurrence: the learning from incidents process. To improve that process, it is necessary to gain insight into the steps of this process and to identify factors that hinder learning (bottlenecks). This paper presents a model that enables organisations to analyse the steps in a learning from incidents process and to identify the bottlenecks. The study describes how this model is used in a survey and in 3 exploratory case studies in The Netherlands. The results show that there is limited use of learning potential, especially in the evaluation stage. To improve learning, an approach that considers all steps is necessary.
