Extraordinary soft and fluffy knitted products may be obtained by a technology of weft-knitt-ed fabrics which we have developed and manufactured with the use of circular open-top-knitting machines. The knitting features obtained in this way raise the level of the clothing’s comfort of usage. This advantageous effect is the result of working-in a stream of untwisted fibres instead of the traditional yarn into the knitted fabric. The fibre stream, intended for the manufacture of the knitted fabric, is obtained as the result of roving which is drawn immediately before being fed into the knitting-zone of the knitting machine. This is done by using a drawing device which we have specially designed and constructed. The devices are mounted in each working zone of the knitting machine. Considering the decrease in machine efficiency caused by using the new technology, the manufacturing costs are higher than those for the classical technology. However, on the other hand, the possibility of using cheaper raw material than common yarn raises the economical effectiveness.

W wyniku stosowania opracowanej technologii dzianin rządkowych na szydełkarkach uzyskuje się wyroby o dużej miękkości i puszystości, które to cechy podnoszą komfort użytkowy odzieży. Efekt ten jest wynikiem wrabiania w dzianinę strumienia nie skręconych włókien, w miejsce tradycyjnej przędzy. Strumień włókien, z którego wytwarza się dzianinę, uzyskuje się w wyniku rozciągnięcia niedoprzędu przędzalniczego tuż przed strefą dziania na maszynie dziewiarskiej. Do tego celu stosuje się zaprojektowane i zbudowane urządzenie rozciągowe, zainstalowane przy każdym obszarze pracy maszyny dziewiarskiej. Na efekt ekonomiczny zaproponowanej technologii ma wpływ przetwarzanie surowca tańszego od przędzy - co obniża koszty produktu, z drugiej jednak strony koszty wytwarzania są większe ze względu na obniżoną wydajność maszyny.

This article presents research work which concerns the loss of weft continuity while being picked with the use of a pneumatic loom. A stand designed and constructed with the aim of investigating the destructive influence of the air stream on the weft is presented, as well as the investigation results. We have stated that dependencies of weft degradation on the effective intensity of the air stream exist. The various characters of these dependencies and the influence of the structure of the transported fibre stream, which additionally changes under the influence of the air stream, were further stated. We found that the differentiation of structure and diameter of the fibre stream intensifies the destruction, whereas the existence of a yarn core inhibits it.

Artykuł przedstawia prace dotyczące badań przyczyn utraty ciągłości wątku podczas wprowadzania go na krosno pneumatyczne. Opisano stanowisko do badań destrukcyjnego wpływu na wątek transportującego go strumienia powietrza. Przedstawiono również wyniki badań.

This paper includes an analysis of the properties of multi-folded yarns and threads manufactured by means of various spinning technologies, and an analysis of its twisting processes. Considerations related to the influence of twist value of the component fibre streams on the twist value of multi-folded threads, and the influence of the twist value of yarns and multi-folded threads on their processing throughput, are also presented.

An analysis of models (presented in available world literature) for the twist of multi-folded threads consisting of two component fibre streams (doubled thread, doubled yarn) is discussed. The possibility of forecasting the twist value of the component streams for an accepted twist value of the multi-folded thread is considered.
