Fractal dimensions analysis of branching streamers propagating in mineral oil

This article deals with the analysis of the fractal dimension of streamers propagating in mineral oil, under lightning impulse voltage, using the box counting method; the method and technique of calculation are described therein. In the considered experimental conditions, the average velocities of recorded streamers are of 2.4 km/s and 1.8 km/s for positive and negative streamers, respectively; these velocities correspond to the 2nd mode of streamers propagation. It is shown that the streamers present the fractal dimension D ; and the higher D is the bushier are the streamers (i.e. with high branch density). The positive streamers can have higher D than the negative ones, if they are bushier.

W artykule przedstawiono zostały wyniki wstępnych badań nad wpływem otuliny izolacyjnej na elektrodzie WN na rozwój wyładowań elektrycznych w oleju transformatorowym. Badania wykonane zostały przy udarze piorunowym biegunowości dodatniej w układzie o polu skrajnie nierównomiernym z gołą i izolowaną elektrodą WN o tych samych obrysach zewnętrznych. Pomierzono napięcie początkowe inicjacji wyładowań, czas do inicjacji oraz szybkość propagacji przy jednoczesnej rejestracji fotografii cieniowych i oscylogramów światła emitowanego podczas rozwoju wyładowań.

Preliminary results of investigations on influance of insulating paper wrapping on HV electrode on electrical discharge development in transformer oil are presented in this paper. The investigatios were carried out under positive lightning impuls in set-ups with bare and insulated HV electrode. Shadowgraph photographs of discharges were taken out together with time resolved paltem of the iight emmitted by their channels. Inception voltage, inception time and propagation velocity of discharges were simultaneously measured.
