Stray losses and flux leakages of a three-phase three-limb transformer are determined and analyzed using 3D finite element analysis. The problem is not current driven but voltage fed. Thus, a circuit-field problem is established and solved. The operating condition analyzed is the load-loss test. Since low excitation voltages are excited during this test, the transformer works under unsaturated conditions. As a result, the transformer is modelled using a time-harmonic approach. The transformer geometry is truly three dimensional, forbidding the use of conventional 2D models. The clamp plates and transformer tank are conveniently modelled with surface impedance boundary conditions.

The focus of this paper is on the numerical calculation of electromagnetic field in the end region of a large turbogenerator with the apparent power of 530 MVA. The three dimensional model is built up with ANSYS software, comprising the end winding topology and the housing boundaries. The model allows to take into account the real configuration of constructional elements. With this model the Joule heating is calculated. The Joule heating in the solid copper parts is then used as input for a succeeding thermal calculation.

W artykule przedstawiono numeryczne obliczenia pola elektromagnetycznego w części czołowej turbogeneratora o mocy 530 MVA.

Rapid design is one of the main imperatives of modern manufacturing, following from the principles of mechatronics. In the ever-important electrical power industry, transformers play one of the most important roles, both from the point of view of energy savings and reliability of the whole system. Though basic methods of computation of almost all main parts of power transformers have been well known for many years, the 3-D stray field phenomenon continues to be studied. In this article a review of many years of research and co-operation with national and foreign industries is presented. Effective and experimentally verified methods are reported.

W pracy podano przegląd wyników wieloletnich badań i współpracy z przemysłem krajowym i zagranicznym. Zaproponowano potwierdzone eksperymentalnie efektywne metody.
