The objective of the study was to examine the possibility of producing polyamide fibres with improved elasticity by modifying the polyamide (PA 6) with elastomeric additives introduced to the spin melt. Following, commercially available, thermoplastic elastomers were applied in the study: polyolefin elastomers, styrene-butadiene copolymers, block copolyetheramides, other. To attain a miscibility of the plyamide with the elastomeric additives, selected for the study were also commercial blends of elastomers with reactive components (compatibilizers) which cause the mix of polymers to react. The not modified PA 6 fibres with a breaking elongation of 40% present an elastic recovery of 67% in average at 25% deformation ER25. After modification with 15% of elastomeric additive fibres were obtained with maximum of the ER25 72%. In the second part of the study fibres were spun from polyamide elastomers. Results obtained in this part of the study indicate that the thermoplastic elastomers of the PEBA type (poly-ether-blok-amides) are potentially a very interesting polyamide-based material, for the manufacture of fibres with good elastic properties: elastic recovery ER25=100%, ER100>80%; ER150>75%.
