Warehouse and inventory management is a recurring issue in many of the different supply chains in diverse industries, where the constant changes in the markets have a direct impact on the management of warehouses and inventories, either generating over-stocks or shortages. This paper presents a case study on warehouse and inventory management control. The company under study was having problems in this area, where over-stocks were generated frequently, leading to various incidents, such as having to store finished and packaged product in unsuitable places, with the associated risk of deterioration. To deal with this problem, control tools based on the KPI (Key Performance Indicator) concept were developed. To this end, the corresponding problem and the information management process within the Supply Chain department had to be analyzed. In this case, it was observed that the databases were not synchronized, therefore strategies were proposed to systematize the collection and updating of data. In addition, to summarize the information, we proceeded to the implementation of an interactive form that facilitates the visualization and interpretation of the evolution of the process, and to be able to apply an efficient control on it, and thus to propose corrective actions supported by evidence.

Racjonalna gospodarka zapasami jest ważnym elementem redukcji kosztów przedsiębiorstwa. Utrudnieniem w optymalizacji kosztów tej gospodarki są ograniczenia związane z dysponowanym kapitałem. Trudności te wynikają głównie z szerokiego zakresu i złożoności tego procesu. W pierwszym etapie, wykorzystując nowoczesne metody prognozowania, należy ustalić poziom popytu na produkowane wyroby. W drugim etapie należy przeprowadzić optymalizację wielkości kosztów związanych z gromadzeniem zapasów z wykorzystaniem procedur matematyczno-statystycznych, z których godną polecenia jest metoda poszukiwania punktów ekstremalnych funkcji wielu zmiennych oparta na funkcji i mnożnikach Langrange'a. W artykule rozwiązano przykład racjonalnego sterowania wielkością zapasów firmy zajmującej się sprzedażą wybranego asortymentu odlewniczego.

The efficient stock control is an important element of the company’s costs reduction. Constraints related to limited capital are difficulty in the cost optimization. These difficulties arise from the complexity of the optimization process. In the first step, the level of products demand should be determined using predictive methods. The second step, amount of costs related to stocks should be optimized using mathematical and statistical procedures -an example is the method based on Langrange’a function and multipliers. In the article the example of effective stock control in the trade company was solved.

A multi-criteria model for determining the order size for materials used in production has been presented. It was assumed that the consumption rate of each material is a random variable with a known probability distribution. Using such a model, in which the purchase cost of materials ordered is limited, three criteria were considered: order size, probability of a lack of materials in the production process, and deviations in the order size from the consumption rate in past periods. Based on an example, it has been shown how to use the model to determine the order sizes for polyurethane adhesive and wood in a hard-coal mine.

The paper suggests the decision-making technique to control processes of spare parts supplies and turnovers. The basis of the technique is the imitating simulation determination of warehouse parameters values which allow to optimize the given system operation. The obtained data allow the expert in planning stocks to make an optimal decision out of a variety of offered alternatives to attain the formulated aim according to the company’s policies and financial possibilities.

W artykule zaproponowano metodę podejmowania decyzji w zakresie procesów kontroli dostawy i obrotu częściami zamiennymi. Podstawą tej metody jest naśladowanie symulacyjnego określania wartości parametrów magazynowania, co pozwala na optymalizację działania danego systemu. Uzyskane dane pozwalają projektantowi systemu składowania na podjęcie optymalnej decyzji przy wyborze wśród oferowanych możliwości tak, aby osiągnąć zamierzony cel zgodnie z polityką danego przedsiębiorstwa i jego finansowymi możliwościami.

W artykule przeprowadzono matematyczną formalizację wielowymiarowych modeli sterowania zapasami z wykorzystaniem procesów sum zmiennych losowych określonych na łańcuchu Markowa. Na podstawie tej formalizacji określono funkcję ryzyka funkcjonowania wielowymiarowych modeli sterowania zapasami. Rozpatrzono również zagadnienie analizy niezawodności funkcjonowania oraz ustalenia optymalnej struktury specjalnego systemu obsługi Markowa za pomocą określenia jego funkcji ryzyka.

The multidimensional stock control that functions in a random Markov environment is considered. The mathematical formalization of this model was considered with the use of sums of the random variables de-fmed on the Markov chains. The authors introduce a definition of risk function of the type of downside risk measures and find the explicit formulas for its determinations. The example of the application of these formulas is provided: the tasks of the reliability and optimal configuration for the queueing problem are regarded.
