Modern marine Diesel prime movers are equipped with so called ‘common rail’ as a part installed in the fuel injection system. This kind of design, gives a possibility to control fuel injection process in ways which were not available to carry out on conventionally designed engines. During the ship operation with a reduced speed and reduced load of the main engine, especially under the “Super Slow Steaming” conditions the waste heat recovery process in exhaust gas boiler is being disturbed. In the article, there is presented a possibility to increase the steam production of the waste heat boiler by interference in the fuel injection pattern for the engine. For the selected system “low speed main engine – smoke tube exhaust gas boiler” the test session has been carried out under the real ambient and operational condition of the ship to verify described possibility. Obtained results have been presented.

There were many changes of ways of operation of low-speed long-stroke marine Diesel engines powering ships introduced last years. Their range of continuous low load operation has been significantly extended. That changes exerted a great influence on operating condition of equipment connected with engines, particularly waste heat boilers. The bellow paper deals with adjustment of water level in smoke – tube exhaust gas boiler depending on real operating condition of the ship powered by the marine slow-speed longstroke Diesel engine operated under the “Super Slow Steaming” program.

New ways of the long term operation of low-speed long-stroke marine Diesel engines such as “Slow Steaming” and “Super Slow Steaming” caused disturbances in operation of waste heat recovery systems from main engines exhaust gases. The advancement of the control systems of the water level in smoke-tube exhaust gas boiler created a possibility to change that parameter during operation of the “main engine – exhaust gas boiler” system. It was made use of such a feature to develop a system of readjustment of water level in the smoke-tube boiler to main engine load. However, introduced methods were saddled with simplifications that can bring in additional disturbances in operation of the boiler feed water systems. The bellow paper deals with influence of the ambient condition of the smoke-tube waste heat boiler on the water level indication in the boiler.

Due to the economical crisis many ship owners introduced new ways of improving the economic efficiency of a ship. This has exerted an influence on main engine operating conditions due to the reduction in fuel consumption. The loading range of engines during sea passages has significantly changed. It has also changed operating conditions of the waste-heat boiler which is connected with ships prime mover. The following paper deals with operating conditions of the waste heat boiler powered by exhausts of the marine slow-speed long-stroke diesel engine of the ship which was operated under the "Super Slow Steaming" program in the tropical area.

Ze względu na kryzys gospodarczy wielu armatorów wprowadziło nowe sposoby na poprawę efektywności ekonomicznej statku. Miało to wpływ na warunki pracy silnika głównego ze względu na zmniejszenie zużycia paliwa. Skala obciążenia silników podczas drogi morskiej zmieniła się znacząco. Zmianie uległy również warunki pracy kotła utylizacyjnego, który powiązany jest z napędem statków. Niniejszy artykuł opisuje warunki pracy kotła utylizacyjnego zasilanego statkowym silnikiem wolnoobrotowym o dużym skoku tłoka, który na obszarze wód tropikalnych brał udział w programie „Super Slow Steaming”.
