Peripheral diabetic neuropathy (PDN) is a complication of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) that impairs posture control and increases the risk of falling. The aim of this study was to characterize the anteroposterior center of pressure (COP-AP) in the time and the frequency domains in the T2DM/PDN group in relation to the control group. To that end we: (1) evaluated the efficacy of using both linear and non-linear discrete wavelet transform (DWT) analyses to evaluate oscillation patterns in the anteroposterior center of pressure (COP-AP) in the bipedal position in terms of time and frequency and (2) established input parameters for a model for predicting the risk of falling. This study included an experimental sample of 30 people with T2DM/PDN matched by gender, age, weight and height with a control sample of 30 healthy individuals. Unreported techniques for analyzing the COP-AP literature were assessed for their capacity to model patient bodily stability in the proprioceptive, visual and vestibular systems. To measure COP-AP, five tests were performed under different conditions as outlined in the Romberg Test using the ‘‘PEDAR System’’ for measuring plantar pressure. DWTs were used to calculate excursion parameters, average speeds, range, RMS values, the average maximum and minimum amplitude, power spectral densities and energy percentages in 11 frequency bands (D1 to D10 and A10). There were significant differences between the two study groups in terms of the calculated linear parameters ( p < 0.05). Using linear and non-linear DWT analyses, a preliminary characterization of COP-AP patterns was achieved. DWT could be used alongside linear analysis to determine the effect changes in these systems have on postural oscillation in people with T2DM.

Purpose: The balance, known as the ability to independently maintain the body in a certain position and return to the starting position, can be divided into static and dynamic balances. Social Latin American dances (salsa, bachata) require dancers to do a characteristic figure, however, they are not trained as intensively as dancing sports. The aim of the study was to assess the static and dynamic balances of dancers, who are regularly dancing those selected Latin American dances, by comparison with those who do not. Methods: The study was conducted among 34 dancers from a Krakow Dancing School and, 37 students of the Jagiellonian University, aged 21–35. A SIGMA balance platform was used to measure static and, the Y-Balance Test platform to assess dynamic balance. The Student’s T-test, MannWhitney U-test and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient were used in statistical analysis. Results: There were neither significant differences between right and left lower limbs of dancers, nor between values of tilts on the YBT platform in both investigated groups. Non-dancers, however, showed a slightly higher positive correlation between the deviations in the sagittal and frontal planes and the surface area, as well as between the path length and the surface area on the SIGMA platform when compared to dancers. Conclusions: The level of dynamic and static balances of dancing people is similar, when compared to non-dancers. The influence of practicing Latin American dances on the sense of balance require further studies.

Content available Static analysis of the tipper semi-trailer frame
EN
The article presents a static analysis of the existing three-axle tipper semitrailer using the finite element method. The tipper trailer frame must be strong enough to carry loads from the load while driving, during an accident and especially when emptying the load box when a very large part of the load is pointing at the rear of the frame. Frames are usually made of low-alloy steel with increased strength, most often of grade S355J2G3; duralumin alloy frames are also used. The currently designed semi-trailer frames are becoming more lightweight while the required load capacity and durability are retained. This is possible thanks to the use of computational methods by the engineers in this finite element method. Static analysis allows for the determination of stress and deformation in the loaded frame and also a possible modification of the frame. The aim of the work was to investigate the influence of the position of the crossbar on the level of stress and deformations for three different load situations of the frame.

Przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu sztywności giętnej żeber podporowych na nośność, sztywność i ugięcia dźwigarów o falistym środniku. Badania doświadczalne przeprowadzono na modelach wykonanych z dźwigarów WTA, WTB i WTC o wysokości środnika 1000, 1250 i 1500 mm, wykonanych z elementów wysyłkowych łączonych doczołowo. Wykazano, że stosowanie sztywnych żeber podporowych w dźwigarach SIN zmienia sztywność postaciową falistego środnika oraz zwiększa globalną nośność krytyczną dźwigara.

The present paper shows experimental research of the influence of the bending stiffness of support ribs on the resistance, transverse stiffness and deflection SIN girders. Experimental research was conducted on two groups of models made of WTA, WTB and WTC girders, heights: 1000, 1250 and 1500, made of shipped elements joined by end-plate connections. It was demonstrated that using stiff ribs as of SIN girder improves corrugated web stiffness and increases the global critical resistance of the girder.
