W artykule porównano normę medyczną ISO 13485:2003 z normą zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania jakością ISO 9001:2000. Zwrócono uwagę na te punkty, które w znacznym stopniu różnią się od siebie, szczególnie w zakresie bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności wyrobów medycznych. Dzięki temu porównaniu można stwierdzić, że wyroby medyczne cechują się wyższą jakością, ze względu na wymagania, i sposób kontroli jakości, obejmujący wszystkie etapy produkcji, oraz sposób nadzorowania wyrobu po sprzedaży.

The paper discusses the issues of the international medical standards ISO 13485:2003 and control standards ISO 9001:2000. The comparison of these standards that showed that standards requirements of medical products include quality control in all stages of production and maintenance of final device.

The article covers European experience of using EDI in the healthcare industry. All included examples were monitored and described by the International Healthcare Collaboration Project. The article contains examples of creating national communication structures in Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland as well as a few applications from hospitals, that enabled them to increase the effectiveness of their logistic and administrative processes. It also demonstrates how an important proportion of healthcare operational expenses can be saved through: rationalisation, the use both of bar codes and EDI, the unambiguous identification and codification techniques based on internationally accepted standards.
