The author tries to prove the necessity of balancing the cultural, historical and social heritage with service harmonisation through standardisation. The standards cannot prescribe service quality valuation. Service quality assessment can be done solely by the customers whose expectations vary between countries and cultures. Therefore service standardisation activities should be far more careful and flexible than those applied in manufacturing.
