Artykuł podejmuje temat zjawiska „białego słonia” w kontekście infrastruktury sportowej, czyli kosztownych obiektów, które po zakończeniu wydarzeń masowych tracą swoje funkcje użytkowe i stają się obciążeniem ekonomicznym. Celem pracy jest analiza przyczyn tego zjawiska oraz identyfikacja czynników umożliwiających skuteczne planowanie i zarządzanie obiektami sportowymi. W artykule przedstawiono studia przypadków stadionów w Grecji, Brazylii i Rosji, które stały się przykładami nieefektywnych inwestycji, oraz obiektów olimpijskich w Londynie, które zostały pozytywnie przekształcone na potrzeby lokalnych społeczności. Na podstawie analizy sformułowano rekomendacje dotyczące zintegrowanego planowania, elastyczności projektowej oraz podejścia opartego na zrównoważonym rozwoju. Wskazano także, że wczesne uwzględnienie przyszłego użytkowania stadionów pozwala uniknąć ich degradacji oraz zapewnia trwałość inwestycji.

The article discusses the „white elephant” phenomenon in sports infrastructure-expensive venues that lose their function and become economic burdens after large-scale events. The aim of the study is to analyze the underlying causes of this phenomenon and identify factors that support effective planning and management of sports facilities. The paper presents case studies of stadiums in Greece, Brazil, and Russia, which illustrate failed investments, as well as London’s 2012 Olympic venues as an example of successful long-term planning. Based on the analysis, the article outlines recommendations emphasizing integrated urban planning, design flexibility, and sustainable development. The findings highlight that early consideration of future use ensures the long-term viability of sports infrastructure and prevents functional and financial decline.

The paper discusses the problem of competitiveness between the rail and road transport with reference to the EU policy for sustainable development of the transport branch. The paper presents the idea of complexity of services which facilitates the development of logistic networks. The authors formulate preliminary assumptions recommended for designing and construction of multimodal hubs. Further, they describe examples of European and Polish businesses which, thanks to the consolidation of services, widened their offer of logistic capabilities. The authors highlight the need for action aiming at the reversal of the unfavorable trend and increasing the cargo flow by rail, and not road. Finally, they discuss the necessity to reform the current freight transport by rail through the construction of comprehensive supply chains.
