The Brazilians enthusiastically welcomed the decision to grant them the right to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The decision to grant Brazil the organization of such a large and spectacular mass sports event to be held in Rio de Janeiro entailed certain risks. This was mainly due to the alarming crime and violence rates in the city, which were largely related to drug trafficking. The decision of the International Olympic Committee sparked a global discussion which questioned Brazil's ability to guarantee the safety of participants in the 2016 Olympics, following the 2014 FIFA World Cup which it also hosted. This article analyzes and assesses the security system of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro organized by the Brazilian authorities, which, according to the organizers' intentions, was to effectively counter the projected internal and external threats. In this context, Brazil's actions for the safety of the Olympic Games deserve recognition and can be a good example for future organizers of this type of mass sporting events. This applies to activities undertaken by the organizers that had the greatest impact on the preparation, organization and functioning of the safety system during the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In this regard, a certain specificity of activities undertaken by the organizers should be noted, which not only focused on combating terrorist threats, but were also aimed at countering internal threats, mainly the organized crime.

The paper presents a feasibility analysis of changes in the manner of development a former sports facility, Edmund Szyc Stadium in Poznań. The terrain and adjacent areas were inventoried, including the assessment of inter-area relationships. Based on the inventory and authors' surveys, three developmental variants were selected for further analysis. Particular attention was paid to the purpose of the area in the local zoning plan (local spatial development plan) and the preferences of its local community. A multi-criteria analysis carried out with three different methods – AHP, MAUT and PROMETHEE II indicated the second variant as optimal. Additionally, the authors performed a sensitivity analysis of the AHP method to determine the weight of adopted criteria. This allowed for observing what impact these changes had on the final result. The sensitivity analysis was performed only for 3 main groups of criteria. The implementation of activities planned in the concept will allow for optimal land development, improvement in functionality as well as improvement in visual and landscape characteristics of the city.

The paper presents an overview of selected sports objects from Aleppo Sports City: Aleppo International Stadium, Al-Hamadaniah Sports Arena, Olympic Swimming and Diving Complex. Structural and materials solution, problems connecting with designing, constructing, seismic of structure were analyzed.

W artykule przedstawiono jedno z wielu zastosowań konstrukcyjnego drewna klejonego warstwowo – lekkie konstrukcje w postaci łukowych zadaszeń kortów tenisowych pokrytych membraną PCV. Drewno to najbardziej naturalny materiał budowlany, w pełni odnawialny surowiec, pochłaniający niskie ilości energii przy produkcji elementów pochodnych oraz łatwo poddający się recyklingowi. Z drugiej strony sport i zdrowy tryb życia. Idealne połączenie. Nowoczesne sposoby produkcji i obróbki drewna klejonego pozwalają kształtować praktycznie nieograniczone formy architektoniczne, co umożliwia ich stosowanie we wszelkich obiektach sportowych.

The article presents one of many applications of structural glued laminated timber, that is light structures in the form of arched roofs of tennis courts covered with a PVC membrane. Wood is the most natural building material that is fully renewable, uses low amounts of energy when producing derivatives, as well as is easily recyclable. There’s also the issue of sport and a healthy lifestyle. Modern methods of producing and processing glued laminated timber make it possible to shape various architectural forms, which allows their use in all sports facilities.

The aim of the paper is to present characteristics and transport accessibility of selected academic sports halls in Poznań. Analyzed objects include: Hall of Education and Sports of Eugeniusz Piasecki Academy of Physical Education, Sports Centre of Poznań University of Technology, the University Sports Hall of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Center of Physical Culture of University of Life Sciences in Poznań. Following issues are discussed in the paper: location, technical parameters, functionality, transport accessibility from main transport points and university dormitories. Research on transport accessibility was based on data covered by mobile application [jakdojade.pl], designed for scheduling the trip by public transport. Ranking method was used for comparison of analyzed objects.

Publikacja stanowi drugą część artykułu autora zamieszczonego w nr 2/2014 (s. 58-62), w którym przedstawiono sposób wyznaczenia obciążenia cieplnego dla systemu ogrzewania płyty boiska pi/karskiego wybranego kompleksu sportowego "Orlik 2012". Bilans cieplny boiska wykonany został w dwóch wersjach: rozruchowej i eksploatacyjnej. W tej części autor prezentuje trzy koncepcje podgrzewania murawy boiska z wykorzystaniem "rurek ciepła". Na podstawie oceny technicznej opartej na przyjętych kryteriach autor wytypował rozwiązanie najkorzystniejsze z punktu widzenia funkcji celu, oparte na dużej ilości krótkich rurek ciepła. W artykule przedstawiono obliczenia wstępne wybranych elementów projektowanego systemu, np. masowe natężenie przepływu nośnika ciepła, minimalną powierzchnię wymiany ciepła dla systemu rurek ciepła i in. istotne wielkości. W końcowej części materiału przedstawiona została ocena techniczna zaproponowanego systemu ogrzewania murawy boiska .

This is the second part of the paper published in nr 2/2014 (pp. 58-62) where the heat demand has been determined. The heat balance has been formulated both for start-up and operating conditions. In this part three configurations of the heating system with heat pipes are compared. The best solution with large number of short heat pipes is chosen. lnitial calculations of heating liquid mass flow, heat exchange area of the heat pipes system and other important parameters are included. Technical validation of the designed system is also presented.

Problemy projektowe w kontekście nowych materiałów i technologii budowlanych w odniesieniu do kształtowania zespołów sportowych rozwiązywane są współcześnie w niezwykle dynamiczny i ciekawy sposób. Poligonem doświadczalnym stały się tu zarówno obiekty otwarte, jak i kubaturowe o różnej skali i specyfice określonej dyscypliny sportowej. Nowe materiały i technologie wprowadzane są także w budowie obiektów prestiżowych dla miast, jakimi są stadiony sportowe. Rzutuje to zarazem na formę architektury takiego obiektu sportowego, jak i na krajobraz miasta.

Designing problems in the context of new building materials and technologies with reference to the shaping of sports complexes are contemporarily solved in an unusually dynamic and interesting manner. Their testing grounds are both open and cubature facilities with the scale and specificity of a defined sports discipline. New materials and technologies are introduced in the construction of facilities which are prestigious for the cities, i.e. sports stadiums, too. It also influences the architectural form of such a sports facility as well as the landscape of a city.

The first Olympic Games in the 21" century will take place in 2004 in Athens, Greece - the cradle of sports - to coincide with the 110th anniversary of „reviving the idea of organizing a modern version of the ancient Olympic Games". As a result, a many thousand „sports city within city" will function in Athens. It will see about two milions of tourists. As it once used to be, the modern "sporting space" in the city has become an important functional and compositional component, as well as a factor of competition among cities and a catalyst for their growth. Thanks to the "phenomenon of sports", evry sporting space in evry city, even a small town, not only possesses a utilitarian value, but also has health, emotional and aesthetic values. What is more, it also represents a constantly increasing educational value. Contemporary sports architecture affects an exceptionally large number of people allover the world thanks to modern means of communication, and its location is the most efficient tool of promoting the city - a venue of sporting events.
