Comparison of the Antioxidant Properties of Spices from Ecological and Conventional Cultivations

The aim of the study was to compare the overall total phenolic compounds content and antioxidant properties of spices (oregano, thyme and rosemary) from ecological and conventional cultivation. The antioxidant activity of the obtained spice extracts was estimated with the use of radical tests (DPPH and ABTS), binding and reduction of metal ions, accelerated Rancimat test and based on the spectrophotometric method. The obtained results indicate that spice extracts from ecological cultivation are characterized by a higher, overall total phenolic compound content compared to spice extracts grown in a conventional system. Ecological spice extracts showed better antioxidant properties than conventional spices in most tests. The results of the statistical analysis show a positive correlation between the total content of polyphenols and the antiradical activity of the extracts. The negative correlation was found behveen the content of polyphenols and the Rancimat test and the chelating activity. It seems that the usage of organic spice extracts in food production could be considered as natural antioxidants, reducing fat oxidation processes to a greater extent than with conventional cultivations.

A mixed–mode analog–digital simulation of LLC resonant power converter with the quality factor limiter

Electrical transients in high-order resonant power converters are difficult to solve with classical analytic analysis. It is also costly and challenging to verify some phenomena empirically. Thus, design and analysis of electronic circuits can be remarkably improved by using appropriate simulation tools, especially in the field of power electronics. In our work, a complete simulation of digitally controlled 350W LLC resonant power converter is presented. Ngspice was utilized as a simulator and KiCad was used as applicative schematic editor. In particular, the use of simplified element models in time domain analysis provide short simulation time. We achieved good consistency between simulation results and hardware measurements. The introduced simulation environment with the LLC converter model is a compelling tool that shortens design time and reduces deployment costs. Among many published scientific papers, this work is distinguished by the fact that the simulation includes a converter with full resonant circuit, quality factor limiter and digital feedback loop.

Stany przejściowe w przetwornicach rezonansowych są trudne do wyznaczenia analitycznie. Również pomiary z wykorzystaniem modeli fizycznych są bardzo czasochłonne oraz wymagają specjalistycznego sprzętu. Jednak gdy wykorzysta się narzędzia symulacyjne proces analizy i projektowania układów energoelektronicznych ulega znacznemu usprawnieniu. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki symulacji sterowanej cyfrowo przetwornicy rezonansowej typu LLC o mocy 350W. W symulacjach wykorzystano oprogramowanie Ngspice, a jako edytor schematów KiCad. Aby otrzymać krótkie czasy symulacji i móc przeprowadzić badania kompletnej przetwornicy wykorzystano uproszczone modele podzespołów. W pracy otrzymano dobrą zgodność wyników symulacji i pomiarów. Zaprezentowany model symulacyjny wraz z narzędziami tworzy kompletne środowisko, które pozwala skrócić czas projektowania i testowania cyfrowych zasilaczy. Wyróżnikiem przedstawionego podejścia jest połączenie analogowej symulacji przetwornicy rezonansowej wraz z implementacją w pełni cyfrowego regulatora.

Zintegrowane zarządzanie logistyczno-marketingowe obejmuje marketing sensoryczny, z którym mamy do czynienia w wielu branżach, w tym również spożywczej. Przydatne do realizacji celów wydają się być przyprawy, które oprócz oddziaływania na zmysły, dzięki zawartych w nich substancjach bioaktywnych, zabezpieczają trwałość potraw, a nawet wykazują działanie prozdrowotne. Celem pracy ankietowej była weryfikacja wiedzy studentów na temat przypraw, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem właściwości przeciwu-tleniających. Analizy statystyczne wykazały istotne różnice poziomu wiedzy między studentami I i V roku studiów, między studentami a studentkami oraz między mieszkańcami wsi i miast.

Integrated management of logistics and marketing includes sensory marketing, with which we are dealing in many industries, including the food industry. Spices seem to be useful for realization of these aims. Spices not only impact on the senses, but also include bioactive substances which safeguard the stability of food and also have a health-promoting action. The aim of this study was to verify the surveyed students' knowledge of spices, with particular emphasis on the antioxidant properties. Statistical analyzes showed significant differences of knowledge due to the year of study, gender and place of residence.
