Microplastics, like nanoplastics, despite theirsmallsize, pose a seriousthreat on a globalscale due to their accumulation in increasing quantitiesin the environment. Due to the urgent need to take action, this topic has been growing in popularity in recent years and is increasingly being taken up by scientists. This article briefly presentsthe sources of microplastics, the potential threatsto plants, animals and humans posed by microplastics, as well as the directions and goals of currentscientific research undertaken by Polish scientists as part of projects financed by the National Science Centre.
