Właściwe wykonanie sonarowej mapy dna wymaga wielu czynności przygotowawczych. Aby sonarowa mapa dna była czytelna konieczne jest ujednolicenie jasności i kontrastu obrazu sonarowego. Ze względu na istnienie martwej strefy obiekty na obrazie sonarowym są przesunięte względem faktycznego położenia. Konieczne jest zatem usunięcie martwej strefy, a jeżeli to możliwe, wyznaczenie faktycznego położenia geograficznego początków linii obrazu sonarowego. Ponadto wskazane jest oznaczenie obszarów cienia akustycznego, aby nie brały udziału w tworzeniu sonarowej mapy dna. Obszar cienia akustycznego nie niesie informacji o dnie, ale o przekroju pionowym obiektu, nie może zatem bezpośrednio uczestniczyć w tworzeniu mapy dna. Przedstawione metody obróbki wstępnej obrazu sonarowego umożliwiają wykonanie wszystkich tych operacji.

In the paper, preprocessing methods preparing the sonar image to the creation of sonar map of seabed are described. Three different methods are presented: automatic correction of lightness and contrast, removing the .dead zone. and finding the area of acoustic shadow.. These methods are introduced to improve the quality of the sonar map. It is achieved thanks to the unification of sonar image.s lightness and contrast, reduction of the error connected with displacement of sonar image.s line to its geographical position and removal from the sonar image of such areas, that do not contain any information about the seabed.

Automatyczne generowanie sonarowej mapy dna natrafia na liczne problemy, spośród których w przedstawionym artykule zwrócono uwagę na skutki różnic w rozdzielczości obrazów sonarowych oraz mozaiki. Zaproponowano także nowy algorytm odwzorowywania linii obrazu, który pozwoli zwiększyć rozdzielczość docelowej mozaiki.

The idea of automatic sonar map synthesis is presented in the paper. The map is created on the basis of sidescan sonar images and georeference for each line of the images. The map in the form of sonar images mosaic gives more useful information than separate images. Automation of the mosaicing process significantly reduces time and cost of its creation. Additional advantage is the possibility of creating a sonar map during the survey, helping the crew to get more complete coverage of the examined area. In the paper, different algorithms for mapping sonar image line into the mosaic were discussed with regard to the quality of the sonar map obtained. The results of the experiments made with the use of prototype software to implement the methods discussed, were presented.
