Using semiconductor saturable absorber mirror and diode end-pumping configurations, all solid-state passively mode-locked Nd3+:YVO4 lasers have been successfully developed. The lasers efficiently provide a stable train of ultra-short laser pulses of 12 ps at 1064 nm at the pulse repetition rate adjustable from 8.8 MHz to 100 MHz. The peak power of 1.3 kW and an average laser power of 940 mW were obtained at the pulse repetitive rate of 60 MHz, corresponding to a laser conversion efficiency of 43 per cent. In order to obtain lower pulse repetitive rate and, therefore, higher peak power, a long laser resonator (larger than 15 m) is proposed and successfully developed for diode end-pumped passively mode-locked laser operation using a simple multiple-pass cavity configuration. As a result, the peak laser power up to 5.1 kW was obtained at the pulse repetitive rate of 8.8 MHz. The experimental results of the picosecond laser amplification and the harmonic generations at 532 nm (2nd), 355 nm (3rd) and 266 nm (4th) are presented.

Zaprezentowano wybrane aspekty dotyczące realizacji projektorów laserowych ze sterownikami, zbudowanymi przy użyciu półprzewodnikowych laserów na ciele stałym - DPSSL (Diode Pumped Solid State Laser). Projektor umożliwia wyświetlanie grafiki wektorowej, także animacji, oraz trójwymiarowych efektów przestrzennych. Dzięki zastosowaniu laserów RGB praktycznie uzyskano pełną paletę kolorów. Urządzenie współpracuje z komputerem klasy PC przez interfejs USB. System współpracuje z komercyjnym oprogramowaniem do wyświetlania oraz tworzenia animacji laserowych i jest w pełni kompatybilny ze standardem ILDA (International Laser Display Association), określającym wymagania i parametry tego typu urządzeń.

The project and realization of a laser projector together with a driver have been presented in this article. The device has been built with the use of Diode Pumped Solid State Lasers. The projector makes it possible to project vector graphics and animations as well as three-dimensional spatial effects. The use of RGB lasers makes it possible to get the full range of colors. The device cooperates with a PC computer through interface, which communicates with a computer via a universal serial bus (USB). The device cooperates with commercial software used for projection and creating laser animations and is fully compatible with ILDA (International Laser Display Association), standards used in that type of devices.

Content available remote Optical crystals survived in information technology systems

Different optical crystals are reviewed from the viewpoint of their optical properties, among which typical crystals survived in the recent information technology (IT) systems. Most of revived or survived crystals are somehow traditional ones because of their established properties. Potential applications of oxide crystals into shorter wavelengths are focused as additional ripple effects of the impetuous deployment of the IT. Some recent activities on developing new crystals are described briefly ; GdVO₄ with a large walk-off angle as a birefringent crystal, Y₂O₃ as a new laser host, periodically poled ferroelectric LiNbO₃ and LiTaO₃ crystals as effective devices of frequency conversion, and traditional sapphire as a potential substrate of GaN-LEDs.
