Methodology for measurement the energy efficiency involving solar heating systems using stochastic modelling

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate gains through measurement and verification methodology adapted from the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol, from case studies involving Energy Efficiency Projects in the Goias State, Brazil. This paper also presents the stochastic modelling for the generation of future scenarios of electricity saving resulted by these Energy Efficiency Projects. The model is developed by using the Geometric Brownian Motion Stochastic Process with Mean Reversion associated with the Monte Carlo simulation technique. Results show that the electricity saved from the replacement of electric showers by solar water heating systems in homes of low-income families has great potential to bring financial benefits to such families, and that the reduction in peak demand obtained from this Energy Efficiency Action is advantageous to the Brazilian electrical system. Results contemplate also the future scenarios of electricity saving and a sensitivity analysis in order to verify how values of some parameters influence on the results, once there is no historical data available for obtaining these values.

W pracy przedstawiono nową koncepcję instalacji słonecznej z podstawowym przeznaczeniem do podgrzewania wody do celów bytowych. Zaproponowano oryginalną konstrukcję zasobnika wody, w którego wnętrzu umieszczono ruchomą przegrodę z materiału izolującego termicznie. Nowe rozwiązanie pozwala na łatwe sterowanie i stabilizację temperatury ładowania zasobnika, uniemożliwia mieszanie cieczy ogrzanej z zimną oraz minimalizuje strumień ciepła pomiędzy nimi. Scharakteryzowano model matematyczny instalacji według opracowanej koncepcji oraz omówiono wyniki symulacji komputerowych. Nowe rozwiązanie pozwala na zwiększenie przydatności zakumulowanej energii cieplnej szczególnie w okresach niedoboru energii ze Słońca.

Paper presents a concept of novel solar heating system primarily for domestic water heating. The original construction of hot water storage tank was introduced. A movable pistonlike divider, made from thermal insulating material, was installed inside the tank. The new solar system allows easy controlling and stabilizing the temperature of charging the heat storage tank. Furthermore, it prevents from mixing of hot and cold water inside the tank and drastically reduces the heat transfer between them. The mathematical model of the solar system was described as well as results of computer simulations. The novel heating system increases usability of accumulated thermal energy especially during seasons of solar energy deficiency.

Według opinii pewnej części społeczeństwa energia odnawialna jest tania. W niniejszej publikacji przedstawiono ocenę i dyskusję wybranych aspektów efektywności technicznej i ekonomicznej instalacji słonecznego ogrzewania wody użytkowej dla małego odbiorcy jednorodzinnego oraz dla odbiorcy w dużym bloku mieszkalnym. Wskazano także na wielkość zużycia energii pierwotnej. Na ogół zastosowanie ogrzewania słonecznego obniża zużycie konwencjonalnych surowców energetycznych, są jednak przypadki, w których obserwuje się wzrost ich zużycia. Wnioski z zaprezentowanych wyników obliczeń sugerują konieczność wyboru metody podejścia do poszukiwania optymalnego wykorzystania energii odnawialnej i jej rozwoju.

The renewable energy is said to be cheap. Some aspects of the technical and economic effectiveness of solar water heating for the small receiver in detached houses and in blocks of flats are described in the paper. The renewable energy application usually leads to the decrease in conventional primary energy consumption but not in every case. The search for the renewable energy optimal development in the view of global economy is the conclusion of the calculation results.
