The paper presents some problems of photo-thermal conversion and aspects of utilisation of solar radiation in buildings. Availability of solar energy in Warsaw - Central Poland is discussed. Solar radiation data can be presented in a clear, simplified and comprehensive way, e.g. in a form of isorads. Knowing solar irradiation some recommendations to a building concept and location of solar collectors can be formulated. Photo-thermal conversation of solar radiation into useful heat that takes place in solar active and passive heating systems what is described with focus of applications appropriate for the Polish climaten conditions. The main conclusion for present application of solar energy in buildings can be as follows: modern buildings are conscious on solar energy.
