Progress in life, physical sciences and technology depends on efficient data-mining and modern computing technologies. The rapid growth of data-intensive domains requires a continuous development of new solutions for network infrastructure, servers and storage in order to address Big Datarelated problems. Development of software frameworks, include smart calculation, communication management, data decomposition and allocation algorithms is clearly one of the major technological challenges we are faced with. Reduction in energy consumption is another challenge arising in connection with the development of efficient HPC infrastructures. This paper addresses the vital problem of energy-efficient high performance distributed and parallel computing. An overview of recent technologies for Big Data processing is presented. The attention is focused on the most popular middleware and software platforms. Various energy-saving approaches are presented and discussed as well.

The aim of this paper is to compare two simulation software platforms, AVL BOOSTTM and Ricardo WAVETM as used to simulate HCCI and SI GDI engines with the intention of maximising the engine’s efficiency and minimising the emissions. This paper compares these platforms in an experimentally validated model to analyse a spark ignition and a Homogeneous Compression Ignition Charge (HCCI) single cylinder 4 valve gasoline engines with multiple configurations and running parameters in order to find the most optimal set-up for the engine, with the prospect of allowing an optimum engine to be built and tested in real world conditions without the need for multiple expensive prototypes and long delays.

The paper presents general description of the DiaSter system implementing advanced methods of modeling, diagnostics and supervisory control for industrial processes. The scope of the tasks realized in the system as well as the system software platform were characterized, in particular: the software structure, central archival and configuration databases, the way of data exchange in the system and the modules of modeling and calculations.

The paper is concerned with global optimization techniques and their parallel implementation. We describe an integrated software platform GOOL-PV (Global Optimization Object-oriented Library-Parallel Version) that provides the tools for solving complex optimization problems on parallel and multi-core computers or computer clusters. Finally, we present the comparative study of sequential and parallel global optimization algorithms based on numerical results for a standard set of multimodal functions.
