The article aims to depict the socio-professional position of pharmacy employees in the Second Polish Republic (1918-1939) and the factors which infl uenced their status. In the interwar period, reforms of the pharmacists’ education system were implemented, the office of the provincial pharmaceutical inspector was introduced, and bills were adopted to settle the particulars of the profession. Thus, the foundations were created to depart from the former semi-artisanal character of pharmaceutical practice towards an academic and independent profession. This had a positive impact on the social and professional position of pharmacy employees. In theory, they were equal to their employers and representatives of other liberal professions. However, the reforms had awakened their ambitions and expectations. The reality was different, especially during the great economic crisis (1929-1933/35). The salaries of professional pharmacy personnel, especially in the eastern provinces, were not high. Instead of suffi cient remuneration, people were still offered - as in the 19th century - housing and board at a pharmacy. The burning problem was unemployment, and the employers did not respect the working time regulations. All this frustrated the employees. Their presumably high socio-professional status was not always refl ected in real life.

Artykuł dotyczy zagadnień implikacji rozwoju AI dla zmian paradygmatu bezpieczeństwa, dotychczas posiadającego w swej istocie ontyczny, antropocentryczny wymiar, chociaż wpisany w szerszy kontekst społecznych badań nad postępem i nowoczesnością, oraz wynikających z nich zagrożeń. Warunkowane technologicznie zmiany struktur społecznych zwiększają ryzyko dla ludzkości, zwłaszcza jeśli uwzględnić problem tzw. punktu bifurkacji, w którym układ nierównowagowy jest w momencie krytycznym, a nadal nie stworzono ogólnej teorii opisującej złożoność. Obecnie podstawowym celem nauk o bezpieczeństwie winno być zatem zabezpieczanie ontycznego istnienia ludzkości wobec wyzwań i nowej logiki zagrożeń ze strony super inteligentnej AI.

The article concerns the issues of the implication of the development of AI (artificial intelligence) for the changes of the paradigm of security that has had an ontological, anthropocentric dimension though embedded in the broader context of social research on the progress and modernity and the threats that result from them. Changes of social structures, conditional upon technology, increase the risk for humanity, especially when one considers the problem of so called the point of bifurcation in which non-equilibrium system is at a critical moment, and a general theory describing complexity has not been created yet. Presently, the main aim of the studies of security should be the protection of the ontological existence of humanity against challenges and a new logic of threats posed by super intelligent AI.

Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju w dobie permanentnego postępu technologicznego i cywilizacyjnego z jednej strony i braku poszanowania środowiska naturalnego z drugiej powoduje, że edukacja młodego pokolenia w XXI wieku ma szczególną rolę do spełnienia. Edukacja na rzecz zrówno-ważonego rozwoju, aby osiągnęła zamierzony efekt, potrzebuje holistycznego rozumienia środowiska jako układu stosunków ekologicznych, ekonomicznych i społeczno-kulturowych, w otoczeniu których egzystuje młody człowiek-uczeń. W opracowaniu wskazano zadania dla nauczycieli, którzy mają prowadzić świadomą edukację zgodnie z ideą zrównoważonego rozwoju. Dokonano również analizy podstawy programowej obowiązującej w różnych typach szkół oraz standardów kształcenia nauczycieli. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, iż problematyka edukacji zrównoważonego rozwoju jest marginalizowana w procesie kształcenia. Konieczne są zatem pilne zmiany w tym obszarze, które są niezwykle istotne dla rozwoju polskiego społeczeństwa XXI wieku.

The idea of sustainable development in the era of permanent technological and civilization progress on the one hand, and the lack of respect for the environment on the other gives the education of young generation in the twenty-first century a special role to play. Education for sustainable development in order to achieve the desired effect requires a holistic understanding of the environment as a system of ecological, economic and socio-cultural relations in which a man exists. Recommendations for the implementation of education for sustainable development, recognized as a prerequisite for its realization, were adopted in a number of documents and declarations made at the highest levels of international organizations. Overcoming the problems of the contemporary world and the entrance to the path of sustainable development can only take place by taking concerted action by all countries and education serving the cause must be a common, international goal.

Walki zbrojne towarzyszyły od wieków rozwojowi gatunku ludzkiego. Ale wojny pojawiały się dopiero wtedy, gdy zaistniały państwa, w których powstały wyodrębnione ze społeczeństwa siły zbrojne, specjalizujące się w walce. Wpływ wojen na przeobrażanie społeczeństw można rozpatrywać - biorąc pod uwagę- cywilizacyjne i społeczne ich konsekwencje. Otóż ciągłe doskonalenie oręża przyczynia się do rozwoju nie tylko broni, ale i techniki jej produkcji, która wpływa na rozwój cywilizacyjny. Z kolei doskonalenie sił zbrojnych wywiera wpływ na rozwój organizacji życia społecznego i istniejących w nim instytucji. Oczywiście, wojny powodują także zniszczenia dóbr cywilizacyjnych i istot ludzkich, co wywiera negatywny wpływ na społeczny postęp. Wpływ wojen na życie społeczne ma więc w ciągu wielowiekowego rozwoju ludzkości ambiwalentny charakter. Jednak pojawianie się coraz bardziej groźnych środków walki, np. termojądrowych lub chemicznych sprawia, że możliwe w przyszłości wojny stają się poważnym zagrożeniem nie tylko dla poszczególnych społeczeństw, ale nawet dla gatunku ludzkiego i środowiska naturalnego. Stosowana od wieków zasada si vis pacem - para bellum powinna zostać zmodyfikowana: si vis pacem non para bellum.

Armed conflicts have been accompanying the development of humankind for centuries. But wars appeared only when states were established, in which armed forces, structures specialising in fighting, were distinguished. The impact of wars on the changes of societies can be discussed by taking account of their consequences to the lifestyle and level of civilisation. The continuous improvement of empowering results in the development of not only weapons, but also the techniques of its production, which affects the development of civilization as well. In turn, the improvement of armed forces has an impact on the development of the organisation of social life and existing institutions. Of course, wars lead to the destruction of the achievements of civilization and human beings, which has a negative effect on social progress. However, the emergence of increasingly dangerous weapons, including thermonuclear and chemical ones, results in the situation in which future war becomes a serious threat not only for individual societies, but even for humankind and nature. The principle of si vis pacem - para bellum known for centuries should be modified into si vis pacem non para bellum.
