As a rule, the road traffic volume distribution in particular hours on working days shows certain patterns on specific types of roads. Public holidays during the year cause disturbances and differences in the distribution of the daily traffic volume compared to working days. The road traffic volume distribution during the day is very important in the analysis of phenomena occurring in terms of road traffic. Knowledge of the values of traffic volumes during the day and their variability allows for the determination of a number of measures and parameters assessing traffic conditions prevailing on the elements of transport networks. Knowledge and understanding of changes in the distribution of traffic volume during a day are crucial for many aspects of transport engineering, such as road traffic control, road safety, and forecasting the traffic volume. This article evaluates the differences in the road traffic volume distributions during the day between public holidays and working days. The analysis was performed for selected intersections located in the city of Gliwice. The results of the statistical test show that on public holidays, there was less traffic volume compared to working days. The greatest decrease in the value of traffic volume occurred on 3rd May, 25th, and 26th December. This decrease ranged from 27.24% to 35.67%. It can be noticed that for all analyzed intersections, the smallest differences in the values of traffic volumes between a public holiday and a working day occurred on 1st November. Additionally, the nature of the impact of public holidays on the road traffic volume on days before and after public holidays was examined. The nonparametric hypothesis testing method was used to investigate changes in the road traffic volume patterns caused by public holidays. The results of Friedman's test show and confirm that there are differences in traffic volumes on the day before and after a public holiday and an average day.

One of the important factors on which road safety depends is adequate visibility. This article analyses horizontal visibility within road intersections. The visibility condition depends on many factors, primarily on the geometric parameters of road elements and the location of buildings, fences, vegetation etc., neighboring the road. The aim of the research presented in the study was to determine the current condition of horizontal visibility, on the example of twenty two intersections located mostly in built-up rural area along a provincial road near Czestochowa. The research was carried out by two methods (the analysis of satellite photographs and the visual method) and the obtained results were compared. The assessment of the security level was based on applicable regulations and technical guidelines. It was found that the results of the visibility assessment based only on the analysis of maps and satellite photographs are in many cases overestimated, due to the fact that many small elements not visible in the photographs are not taken into account and the occurrence of convex vertical road arches within the field of visibility. However, the main reason for the insufficient visibility at the many intersections is the fact that the geometrical parameters of roads and their surroundings were shaped in the past when the traffic conditions were completely different. It was also noted that road managers perceive this problem and take measures to increase safety within road intersections.

Poprawne oszacowanie poziomu hałasu w otoczeniu skrzyżowań drogowych jest zadaniem trudnym. Wyniki dotychczasowych prac badawczych dotyczących tego problemu z różną dokładnością odwzorowują rzeczywistą sytuację, m.in. z uwagi na brak szczegółowego uwzględnienia ukształtowania skrzyżowania i charakterystyk ruchu pojazdów na poszczególnych jego wlotach. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych przez autorów w otoczeniu trzech typów skrzyżowań drogowych. Wykazano, że istnieją istotne różnice pomiędzy poziomami hałasu w otoczeniu skrzyżowań w zależności od ich typu, rozwiązania geometrycznego oraz charakteru i parametrów ruchu pojazdów na poszczególnych wlotach.

Correct prediction of noise level in the vicinity of intersections is a difficult task. The results of past research work on this issue reflect the real noise levels with various precision mainly due to not including the shape of the intersection in detail, as well as the characteristics of vehicle traffic at individual intersection entries. This article presents the results of research conducted by the authors in the vicinity of three types of intersections. It has bean demonstrated that there are significant differences between noise levels in the vicinity of intersections depending on their type, geometric solution and the character and parameters of vehicle traffic at individual entries.

W artykule przedstawiono propozycję definicji indeksu jakości klimatu akustycznego. Indeks stanowi miarę umożliwiającą ocenę negatywnego oddziaływania ruchu drogowego na klimat akustyczny w najbliższym otoczeniu infrastruktury drogowej. Miara ta będzie przydatna w systemach, których zadaniem jest ocena stopnia oddziaływania transportu drogowego w krótkich okresach czasu. Zaproponowany indeks zastosowano do oceny klimatu akustycznego w obszarze skrzyżowania monitorowanego ze względu na hałas komunikacyjny w czasie bliskim rzeczywistemu.

The article presents a proposal for the definition of the acoustic climate quality index. The index is a measure to assess the negative impact of road traffic on the acoustic climate in the immediate vicinity of the road infrastructure. This measure will be useful in systems whose task is to assess the impact of road transport in short periods of time. The index was used to assess the acoustic climate in the cross-road area monitored due to traffic noise in near real time.

In Autonomous Transit Networks some basic elements influence the throughput: network structure, maximum velocity, number of vehicles etc. Other parameters like station structure, dynamic routing or vehicle behavior on intersections play minor role. Yet in highly congested nets, when vehicles interfere in the traffic, some subtle decisions may influence overall system ridership. We tested the impact of intersection priority rules on passenger waiting time, which measures the through-put. The dependence occurred its relevance in a crowded network.

W sieciach transportowych ATN (Autonomous Transit Network) na przepustowość mają wpływ jej główne elementy jak struktura sieci, maksymalna prędkość, liczba pojazdów itd. Inne parametry jak struktura przystanków, dynamiczny wybór drogi czy zachowania pojazdów na skrzyżowaniach grają niewielką rolę. Jednak przy dużym zagęszczeniu pojazdy przeszkadzają sobie wzajemnie i pewne subtelne decyzje mogą wpłynąć na zdolność przewozową sieci. Zbadaliśmy wpływ zasad pierwszeństwa na skrzyżowaniach na czas oczekiwania na pojazdy, który jest miarą przepustowości. Zależność okazała się istotna w zatłoczonej sieci.

Czasami lokalne warunki, aspekty społeczne czy szczegółowe wymagania związane z ochroną środowiska powodują potrzebę pogłębienia analiz i skupienia się na kompleksowym i często niestandardowym rozwiązaniu skrzyżowania dwóch dróg. Taki przypadek miał miejsce przy projektowaniu węzła drogowego w miejscowości Radziejowice na przecięciu drogi krajowej nr 8 z drogą wojewódzką nr 579, którego budowa właśnie się rozpoczyna.

It sometimes happens that due to local conditions, social aspects or detailed requirements on environment protection, the need arises to carry out deepened analyses and consider extraordinary solutions for crossroads. One such case occurred while designing road node in Radziejowice at the section of state road No. 8 with province road No. 579.

Autorzy niniejszego artykułu brali udział w pracach studialnych nad dwiema dużymi inwestycjami w zakresie miejskiego transportu szynowego w Toruniu. Na podstawie zdobytych doświadczeń, w artykule omówiono wpływ budowy pasów autobusowo - tramwajowych na efektywność obsługi transportowej centrum dwustutysięcznego miasta. Przedstawiono mechanizm wyboru lokalizacji pasów autobusowo - tramwajowych. Omówiono zasady projektowania oraz wady i zalety rozwiązania zgodnego z Wytycznymi projektowania skrzyżowań drogowych oraz poszczególnych rozwiązań autorskich.

The authors of the following paper participated in the study works concerning two large investments in rail transport in Toruń. In this paper, impact of bus and tram lanes on efficiency of transport service in the centre of the city of nearly 200 thousand inhabitants is described. The mechanism of choice of bus and tram lane localization is presented. The principles of designing are demonstrated. Both advantages and drawbacks of the solution being in accordance with [8] as well as other proprietary solutions are pointed out.

Jednym z najczęściej pojawiających się obecnie na skrzyżowaniach drogowych problemów związanych ze stale wzrastającym natężeniem ruchu jest niewystarczająca przepustowość wlotów podporządkowanych oraz brak zapewnienia użytkownikom odpowiedniego poziomu bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego podczas przejazdu przez skrzyżowanie. Niejednokrotnie najkorzystniejszym rozwiązaniem jest przebudowa skrzyżowania. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie trzech koncepcji modernizacji skrzyżowania oraz wybór najdogodniejszego - zdaniem autorów - wariantu poprawiającego aktualne warunki ruchowe panujące na skrzyżowaniu.

One of the most frequent road crossings problems associated with ever increasing volume of traffic, insufficient bandwidth and lack of sub-inlets provideusers with the appropriate level of road safety during the passage through the intersection. Often the most preferred solution is to rebuild the intersection. In the paper this problem is shown on the example of one of crossings in Katowice.
