To assess the injuries suffered by the persons involved in the accidents, the scales of injury severity have been created. They are used mainly in health service rescue operations. The paper presents the bio-mechanics of forming/arising the injuries and discusses scales used. These scales can be classified, con-sidering the method of assessing injuries, into four main groups: disability and social losses scales, ana-tomical, physiological, and combined scales. The mutual relations between the scales are presented in the paper.
